Episcopal Peace Fellowship - Maine Chapter

The Mission of the Episcopal Peace Fellowship is to Do Justice, Dismantle Violence and Strive to be Peace Makers. Episcopal Peace Fellowship - Maine Chapter is a small but committed group of peace-minded believers. EPF is a national membership organization connecting all who seek a deliberate response to injustice and violence and who want to pray, study

, and take action for justice and peace in our communities and our churches and the world. It began as the Episcopal Pacifist Fellowship on November 11, 1939, Armistice Day. EPF aids and encourages all Episcopalians to strive for justice and peace and to bear nonviolent witness to Christ’s call to peace.

At the heart of each major religion is the vision of peace, the ideal of a reconciled humanity, the way of compassion and love and justice, the fundamental truth of nonviolence.

As we continue to "reel" from the latest shootings I would like to share a prayer and an explanation of why EPF-Maine is supporting the memory of Hadiya Pendleton.

WEAR ORANGE
Every year on the first Friday in June, members of the movement against gun violence come together to honor surviviors of gun violence and to demand a future free from this crisis. Moms, students, veterans, survivors and others wear orange throughout the weekend to show their support - in every state across the country.

Wear Orange originated on June 2, 2015 - what would have been Hadiya Pendleton's 18th birthday. Just one week after performing at President Obama's 2nd inaugural parade in 2013, she was shot and killed at the age of 15. In the aftermath, teenagers in Chicago who wanted to honor their friend wore orange to raise awareness around gun violence.

Episcopal Peace Fellowship of Maine wishes to honor Hadiya and the more than 110 people shot and killed every day in the United States. Every parish in the Dioceses of Maine is encouraged to join National awareness Day and Wear Orange Weekend June 3 - 5. Show our support for prevention of gun violence!

"PRAYER TO SHARE WITH YOUR CONGREGATION"

"There are times when there is so much darkness, so much hate and so much hopelessness that we can barely breath much less make sense of it. It is as if darkest of all clouds has finally prevailed and we feel helpless and afraid. During these times we must open our hearts and our arms and remind ourselves and each other that there more candles than guns, more love than hate and much more light, stronger, brighter and more powerful than any danger that may swirl around us. And at the darkest moments, we must, through our thoughts, prayers and actions remind each other of the ultimate truth that light, hope and most of all love always wins."

Forever and ever. Amen
