Just a reminder, all our services are both livestream, and available on YouTube. If you missed something, you can always go back and watch again, or for the first time! Here's Easter Sunday, where Pastor Sara employed some sweet pictionary skills for the sermon since her voice was/is still missing.

This week we walk through a story about a radical teacher whose profession of love and care for the poor, outcast, and stranger was met with contempt by the powers of state and empire. As tensions rose, Jesus kept loving and speaking the truth. He kept feasting with friends and serving them with love. If that is a story that feels relevant, if you need to hear about a love that has no limits even when the crowds are shouting in anger to kill the one who preaches love and belonging... then this week is for you. Come join us at GLC for worship Thursday, Friday and Sunday as we carry the story of love through anger, fear, deception, betrayal and death. And then.... we rise in love and light together.

Yesterday a crew from Gethsemane joined 330 of our friends from across the wild web of faith communities and organizing efforts in Oregon and went to Salem for the Sacred Organizing Coalition's Advocacy Day. On the table were pieces of legislation that move us closer to "An Oregon Where All Belong". Bills that remove caps on special education spending to support students with disabilities and mental health needs, bills that declare food emergencies so that we can move money to our food banks and schools and providers faster and with more efficiency. Bills that help unlock housing and rental assistance needs for families, children and those in need. It was so powerful to hear stories from all ages... grandmothers, school counselors, students, retired teachers, fellow pastors and leaders who have all have stories and hopes for how we can provide for one another in our state better. All of these people inspired by their faith to speak the truth of these needs and gaps to those who have power to make big changes! Pastor Sara carried letters and postcards from those who couldn't be present to help our state legislatures know that we want to see an Oregon where everyone can thrive!

On a weekend that felt heavy with history and the anxiety of our futures, Pr. Sara and some youth from East County headed to Camp Lutherwood for Together Lab's Youth Solidarity Retreat. We made friends across denominations and regions of the state, played Gaga Ball in 28 degree cold and dark (that's what headlamps are for, I'm told!), hiked to the stargazing platform in that same cold and dark to see more stars than we could ever see in the city, drank hot chocolate, ritually burned the lies that we get told about ourselves and our limits, heard stories of other youth collaboratives advocating for their needs and their families (SE PDX youth helped prevent the shutdown of a needed community resource!) and made plans for what it means to band together, create solidarity and belonging and build a collaborative youth movement that brings us towards an Oregon where every youth is noticed, named, known and loved. Y'all.... the kids are alright. I've seen it. And they're ready for making change in our world.

Thanks to all who prepared, led, brought snacks and attended our Annual Meeting on Sunday! We honored outgoing council members and thanked them for their service... Including a certain new "Council Member Emeritus" who has served many a year on GLC's council. Now we have 6 amazing leaders ready to serve in 2025!

Join us for worship Sunday as we close out the Christmas season and launch the season of Epiphany... a season of unveiling, enlightening, and light! We will draw "star words"... a fun new tradition to mark the beginning of a season of light, and to echo the story of the Magi who were guided by the light of a star. Each star has a different word... one to guide, stir, agitate, and inspire! If you're not going to be in worship Sunday, send us a message or email Pastor Sara and we'll set one aside or mail you one!
