I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. — Ephesians 1:17 NIV
Devotion
I keep asking God for myself, my family, my friends, and my fellow believers what the Apostle Paul asks for the Ephesian Church in our verse for today. Virtually every day, I ask for the Spirit of wisdom and revelation. I ask, because I want us to know God better. I want us to have God's perspective on things. Without His perspective, we're in the dark. Without His perspective, we won't know what He has for us.
Without His perspective, we won't know the hope to which He has called us. (Ephesians 1:18) In Christ, we have hope for a glorious future. That hope is for our lives in the present age and for our lives in the age to come. Salvation is ours. Redemption is ours. I want us to have the Spirit of wisdom and revelation so that we will have the fullness of that hope. I want us to have it so that we won't be tempted to give up on everything we can have and everything we can be. I want us to have it so that we will keep moving forward in life, ever higher and further.
Moreover, without His perspective, we won't know the riches of His glorious inheritance in His holy people. (Ephesians 1:18) We won't know that, in Christ, we are heirs and we have an inheritance. It is an inheritance that has many riches. The riches involve more than just wealth and money, although it includes that. The riches of His glorious inheritance are the riches of a full and complete life, a life without lack in any respect. Although we may still have trials, troubles, tribulations, and persecutions in the present age, in Christ we have an inheritance of abundant life. (John 10:10)
Even more, without His perspective, we won't know His incomparably great power for us who believe. (Ephesians 1:18) Paul says that this power is "the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms." (Ephesians 1:19) It is, in other words, resurrection power. It is life-giving power. Without God's perspective we won't know that the miraculous can be a reality in our lives. Miracles of healing and of every other kind can be ours.
If I, like Paul, may keep asking, then you may do the same.
