Red Sea Church

Red Sea Church Why do we exist as a church? Our mission is to Draw to Christ, Develop into Community and Deploy int Here in St Johns, we are surrounded by water on all sides.

If you’ve lived in the Pacific Northwest for any amount of time, you know that water is a big part of our existence. From the rainfall to the rivers, the water brings life, and it keeps things green and beautiful. With major rivers to the north, south, and west, and with rainclouds above us most of the year, we’re no strangers to water. But water is not only significant to our way of life in Portl

and, it is also a significant theme throughout the scriptures...

- During creation, the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. (Genesis 1:2)
- Through the waters of the Red Sea, God miraculously delivered his people from
Slavery in Egypt. (Exodus 14)
- Today, the waters of baptism mark our miraculous deliverance from slavery to sin
and death. (Mark 16:16)
- Jesus speaks of the “living waters” of salvation and life in Him. (John 4)

Water is a Biblical image for renewed life and redeemed creation. In Ezekiel 47, the prophet receives a vision of a small stream of water flowing out of God’s temple and into the Dead Sea. As it flows, it grows, and life around it flourishes—where death and desolation once ruled, now abundant life exists. This same picture finds its fulfillment in the last chapter of our Bibles; Revelation 22 describes the River of the Water of Life flowing through the streets of God’s heavenly city, where all things are redeemed, renewed, and reconciled through Christ. This is a powerful and hope-filled image, and it has deeply shaped our vision for Red Sea Church and the City of Portland. We often find ourselves praying these words from Habakkuk 2:14 “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD as the waters cover the sea.”

We are Red Sea Church—our name reminds us of God’s great work of redemption in the past, while we engage in his redemptive work in the present, and look forward to the ultimate redemption that is come. Our logo is an image of a wave, a symbol of God’s great, hope-filled redemption. It is comprised of 3 lines, reminding us of our mission to draw to Christ, develop in community, and deploy into culture.

We loved getting the chance to serve our community today. In addition to street cleaning and working in the Community of Hope garden, we got to clean up some graffiti on a couple downtown St Johns businesses. Here’s a fun before and after.

Join us THIS SATURDAY for the BIBLE MARATHON!

Everyone is invited to join! Bring a Bible and notepad. Snacks and coffee will be provided. The plan is to collectively read through a large portion of scripture in a single sitting, starting with the gospel of John. We’ll also read the three Epistles of John and, if time allows, another short New Testament Book. Join Clay Robison for what is sure to be a powerful time of connecting with God through his Word, in community.
