Portland Baha'i Center

Portland Baha'i Center In 1992, the Bahá’ís of Portland purchased the historic
St. Johns Post Office for a local center. The community was established here in 1906.

Please also see the page Portland Metro Baha'i Community. This is the official site for the Portland Oregon Baha'i Center. On September 17, 1992, the Bahá’ís purchased the historic and beautiful St. John’s Post Office for a Center. Designed by local architect Francis Marion Stokes, the magnificent building was constructed in 1932. According to the retired St. John Postal Superintendent Bi

ll Oeschger, “when Mr. Newman, the government inspector, looked over his new post office back in ’33, he said it was the best-lighted, best-architected, best-built building he had seen anywhere in the region at that time.”

Currently the Bahá’í Center hosts a range of events for all ages: devotional gatherings, classes for adults, youth and children, and informational meetings. Bahá’u’lláh, a title which means Glory of God, spoke words inspired by the one God, creator of all that is. These Divine Words, revealed by Bahá’u’lláh, are the basis of the Bahá’í Faith. Now millions of Bahá’ís and their friends are striving to build unified families and communities in accordance with this new guidance from God for our age. The Bahá’í community welcomes all to join in systematic learning, putting into practice the related service activities, then reflecting on and adding to our knowledge in a continuing cycle of activity.

Online Interfaith Devotions: Portland
Sun Sep 6 2026, 10:30am - 11:30am

"Let us seek the song with the sweetest strains, so that it may be taken up by the angels and carried to the supreme concourse. Let us hearken to the melody which will stir the world of humanity, so that the people may be transformed with joy. . ." `Abdu’l-Bahá

Numerous scientific and psychological studies have shown that music can lift our moods, combat depression, improve blood flow in ways similar to statins, lower levels of stress-related hormones such as cortisol, and ease pain. Music can improve the outcomes for patients after surgery.

On Sunday we will explore the healing power of music—both physical and spiritual healing through music and various scientific and religious thought on music in our world. Do you have a favorite piece of music? Join us for this time together, for prayers, music and fellowship. The Zoom link is below.
Sincerely, your host, Karen🎶

"I am one of Thy handmaidens, O my Lord! I have turned my face towards the sanctuary of Thy gracious favors and the adored tabernacle of Thy glory. Purify me of all that is not of Thee, and strengthen me to love Thee and to fulfill Thy pleasure, that I may delight myself in the contemplation of Thy beauty, and be rid of all attachment to any of Thy creatures, and may, at every moment, proclaim: “Magnified be God, the Lord of the worlds!” ~ Baha’u’llah
