Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Portland Chapter The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is a dynamic, fast growing international revival movement within Islam

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA, established in 1920, is the first and oldest Muslim organization in the United States. The Portland chapter of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community was established in 1966 and built the Portland Rizwan Mosque - the first Mosque built in Portland - in 1987. The Portland Rizwan Mosque stands on a hill in a quiet residential neighborhood in Southwest Portland. The design

of the mosque is a fusion of traditional architectural elements of mosques in Muslim-majority countries and American suburban architecture by which it is surrounded. The small mosque displays a 40-foot decorative minaret that faces the street, while large glass doors placed within wall-length windows provide a beautiful entrance from the front parking lot. During its entire history, the Portland chapter of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community has been a source of Islamic knowledge in Portland and has played an active role in outreach and interfaith programs. Comprised of members from various ethnic and national backgrounds, it has been a beacon of pluralism and rational discourse. It organizes classes and social events, as well as community service activities such as blood drives, adopt-a-highway cleanups and food and clothing drives. It also opens its doors to classes, religious organizations and other individuals and groups desiring to visit a mosque and/or learn about Islam.

Eid Prayer Services to be Held at Homes

Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA to continue to make its mosques open for essential services only

While the COVID-19 pandemic persists, Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA will be celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr on Sunday, May 24th, at individual homes. All mosques of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA remain open for essential services, such as blood and food donations.

During Ramadan, members of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA strengthened their relationship with God by serving His people. Self-sacrifice, the core teaching embodied by fasting in this Holy Month, propelled members to serve their local communities during the COVID-19 pandemic through blood drives, food drives and delivery of hygiene kits to needy. In addition, the Community held Virtual Interfaith Iftars to draw people together of different spiritual backgrounds.

Earlier this year, His Holiness Mirza Masroor Ahmad, Khalifa (Worldwide Head) of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, instructed that while “observing precautionary measures...help whoever [you] can. To please Allah, it is essential that one takes care of His creation and most importantly, beseech Allah the Almighty’s mercy for their own sake and for the sake of mankind.”

To support Eid services around the country, Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA has provided all its members with guidance and instruction on how to conduct and lead an Eid service from their homes. Though the Community is unable to open their mosques for Eid prayer, its members will reflect with gratitude on all that it has learned during this Ramadan through service to humanity. The Community continues to offer essential services through its aid organization, Humanity First USA (usa.humanityfirst.org).

Great story in today's edition of The Oregonian about our community's much-anticipated Virtual Iftar that we are hosting this evening. It's still not too late to register. You can find the link in the article. We may not be able to gather physically, but we can still gather virtually to be together as a community and reflect on the power of prayer. This is something we need at these times.

Ahmadiyya Muslim Community will host an interfaith virtual iftar over Zoom at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Still very grateful to FOX 12 Oregon for including the Muslim community in this story last month. As we prepare to host the first ever Virtual Interfaith Iftar today, this story remains very relevant.
