MCC Portland A progressive Christian church with ministry focus with and for the queer/LGBTQ+ community. Welcome to Metropolitan Community Church of Portland.

In worshiping with us, you not only unite with brothers and sisters in Portland, but you are also in spiritual communion with a progressive, inclusive worldwide movement of more than 222 churches in 37 countries around the world. We are a Christian congregation that affirms those who seek God in a variety of ways. We encourage spiritual growth through worship, prayer, learning and service. Though

our individual theological beliefs differ widely, our mutual commitment to love, justice and spiritual living gives us a unifying bond. We are a people who have grown up in a variety of religious traditions — or no religious tradition. We have experienced spiritual life in this community and invite you to join us as we grow together, contribute to each other’s spiritual journeys, and offer our time and talents to serve our community. MCC is committed to being a vital, relevant and public voice for the full inclusion of all people with special outreach to gay, le***an, bisexual, straight and transgendered people in the rights and benefits of our city, state and nation as well as the Church. What do you owe?

Debt usually sounds like something we want to escape. But what if there’s one debt we’re meant to keep paying?

In “I O U,” Jody Beal takes us on a funny, honest, and deeply meaningful journey through Psalm 119:33–40 and the call to love—asking us to consider three powerful questions:

I owe you, God.
I owe you, neighbor.
I owe you, me.

From gratitude and generosity to forgiveness, kindness, self-acceptance, and learning to notice the rainbow instead of complaining about the rain, Jody reminds us that love isn’t just something we feel—it’s something we live.

And sometimes, the most faithful thing we can do is recognize what we’ve been given, what we can give, and what we owe ourselves.

Fifty-eight years ago, Rev. Troy Perry had a dream and a vision. A vision of a church where all people could experience God’s love and be welcomed just as they are. Today, that vision has grown into a global movement, sharing God’s inclusive love and working for social justice around the world.

For 58 years, Fellowship Sunday has celebrated the ministry we share as Metropolitan Community Churches. It is one of our most important opportunities each year to come together in generosity, celebrate all that we have accomplished, and invest in the future of MCC.

This year, our Fellowship Sunday Offering will support MCC Flourish Leadership Development by helping develop, support, and sustain the clergy and lay leaders who strengthen our churches and carry MCC’s mission forward.

🎭 REMOVE THE MASK

What if the first mask we need to remove is the one we hold up to ourselves?

In this week’s message, Cory Madey explores Romans 12:9–21 and what it means to live with sincere love—love without hypocrisy, pretense, or the masks we sometimes wear.

Cory challenges us to pay attention to the thoughts we carry, the habits we’re trying to change, and the ways our community can encourage and hold us accountable. And when the world feels overwhelming, we’re reminded that we don’t have to carry anger, judgment, or hatred with us.

Instead, we can pray, let go, show up for one another, and overcome evil by doing good.

Sometimes changing the world starts with what’s happening in here—in ourselves and in our community.

DON’T BACK DOWN.

What happens when standing firm in your faith could cost you everything?

In this powerful message, Mason Briquer draws from Daniel 3 and Acts 4 to remind us of the courage of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego—and the disciples who refused to stop speaking about what they had seen and experienced.

There will always be pressure to bend, stay quiet, fit in, or give up. But Mason challenges us to remember who we are first: children of God.

When life gets hard, when people push back, when fear tells us to quit—don’t back down. Stand firm. Keep praying. Keep believing. Keep holding on to God.

🔥 “Stir Up the Gift of God” — A Sermon by Kelly McFarland

“Don’t let the fire go out.”

That simple charge becomes a powerful reminder in Kelly McFarland’s message: some things are too precious to let fade away.

Drawing from 2 Timothy 1 and James 1:16–17, Kelly challenges us to stir up the gifts God has placed within us—especially the gifts we share as a community.

As MCC Portland celebrates 50 years, Kelly invites us to remember and reignite three precious gifts: our legacy, our long, long altar where everyone is welcome, and the gift of community itself.

The fire that was kindled more than 50 years ago is still burning. The question is: Will we be the ones who keep it burning?
