Aidan’s parish all people who seek to love God in an open and supportive community based upon the example and teachings of Jesus Christ. We especially welcome people who feel they may not be welcome in a church. We confess that as a community we are not already perfected in love. We seek to become more fully loving, and we welcome all who wish to join us in this journey.

Trinity Cathedral draws 300 to 400 worshipers each Sunday through its classical music program and inclusive approach, bucking Portland's trend of declining religious attendance.

Trinity Sunday was M. Sara's last day as our Rector. It's been a brief time together, but her tenure has helped us see some new possibilities for the future of St. Aidan's.

Her leadership, her liturgical style, her sense of humor, and her thought-provoking sermons will all be missed, but we know that we can always find her Hope & Bread Church on Sunday afternoons!

As she closes out this chapter of ministry, the people of St. Aidan's wish her a fond farewell and pray that the future holds just the right amount of those things that nurture her spirit.

“The fact that fire can be both so dangerous and so life-giving makes it a perfect way to talk about the Christian ministry inaugurated by the first Pentecost. The power that comes with the descent of the Spirit is dangerous and life-giving. The work of God in the world, the work of healing, liberation, and justice, which Jesus was sent to proclaim, is dangerous work. And yet, it is the life-giving work for which we are commissioned every Sunday.”

“When I pray for someone on the other side of death, my prayer brings me closer to them. When I pray for people who have caused me hurt or difficulty, my love for them deepens. I say all of this not because I’m such a good person, but because that’s what prayer does. Prayer is one of Jesus’ parting gifts to us, and it is for all of us. Being pray-ers is one of the ways we are called to be imitators of Christ, to be Jesus in the world.“ —

We started at 9:00 a.m. and worked through sun and rain, aching backs and dysfunctional knees, but we accomplished a lot! We couldn't have done it without the help of Victor of Rio de Vida - part of our Beloved Community - and our own Jimmy. They wheelbarrowed topsoil and bark dust, raked, trimmed tree branches, dug holes, carried what needed carrying - and all with a cheerful attitude and willing hands.

While Alison tended to some things in the vegetable garden, the rest of us - BJ, Rachel, Leslie, Aria, Barb, and Cheryle - pulled weeds, raked, planted plants, spread topsoil and barkdust, watered, and take great pride in what we accomplished in the space of five hours.

We're all ready for hot showers and relaxation. But oh! it's worth it. Don't you agree?

"God raised Jesus and therefore raised all that Jesus embodied: Justice, forgiveness, love of enemies, not just tolerance, but love, extravagant generosity, risk. Freedom that comes from truth, no matter how awful that truth might be. These are the politics of Jesus, the politics that possessed Stephen, the politics that Thomas and the other disciples in the upper room knew as the Way, the truth, and the life."
