Unconditional love. Inclusiveness. Ending racism and partisanship. Survival of humanity. My new song welcomes everyone who’s hurt another, forgiving their past if they will now respect everyone and work together to preserve and protect people and the earth. No judgments, criticism, or grudges – just common humanity looking forward, not back. The process of creating this song involves a lifetime of seeking wisdom to help the world, and finding that no solution works unless we first restore the shredded fabric of humanity.
A house divided against itself cannot stand. America’s most dangerous enemies are those who are stoking the fires of division between its citizens. Jesus socialized with the outcasts of society, welcoming all who would now choose brotherly love. The Persian poet, Rumi, said all are welcome, even if you’ve broken your vow 1,000 times. Let’s remember that even those we disagree with are human beings who also love our country, and there is no justification for treating others with disrespect.
The lyrics:
I don’t care what you’ve done, or who you’ve done it to
You can ride this train, and I’ll ride with you.
I don’t care if you’re on the run, or someone’s running from you
You can ride this train, and I’ll ride with you.
Maybe you spilled a secret you heard, made a promise and broke your word
Whether you’ve given or felt the pain, everyone’s welcome on this train.
You can ride this train, and I’ll ride with you,
You can ride this train, and I’ll ride with you. (2x)
I don’t care where you’ve been or who might have been there, too
You can ride this train, and I’ll ride with you.
I don’t care which pills you took or who you sold them to
You can ride this train, and I’ll ride with you.
Maybe you lied and started a fight, maybe you tried to make things right
Whether you’ve suffered a loss or gain, everyone’s welcome on this train.
You can ride this train, and I’ll ride with you,
You can ride this train, and I’ll ride with you. (2x)
I don’t care if you’re black or white, red or yellow, too
You can ride this train, and I’ll ride with you.
I don’t care what you think of God or which old book is true
You can ride this train, and I’ll ride with you.
I don’t care if you’re blue or red, made a mistake and now someone’s dead
I don’t know how to be more plain, everyone’s welcome on this train.
You can ride this train, and I’ll ride with you,
You can ride this train, and I’ll ride with you. (2x)
