As we look forward to celebrating the Solemnity of Christ the King this Sunday, let us take a look at a two great martyrs of the Cristero War, a 3-year war from 1926 to 1929 when it was illegal to practice the Catholic faith publicly in Mexico.

Blessed Miguel Pro was a Jesuit priest who operated in secret and refused to stop offering the sacraments to his flock. He was caught and executed while crying out, "¡Viva Cristo Rey! Long live Christ the King!"

Saint José Luis Sánchez del Río was a fourteen-year-old boy who was tortured because he proclaimed Christ to be King. They told him they would let him go if he would just deny Christ, but he refused, even unto death. In his last words, he shouted, "¡Viva Cristo Rey! ¡Viva Santa Maria de Guadalupe!"

Let us remember those who believed that Jesus is King, those who believed it so much that they offered up their very lives for the sake of his kingdom. May we join the mission of bringing God's kingdom to earth.

Anointing of the Sick will be celebrated at Mass this weekend!
Jesus came to heal the whole person, body and soul.
Join our pray for those who are sick as we find ways to accompany them through healing.

The special grace of the sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick has as its effects:
(1) the uniting of the sick person to the passion of Christ, for his own good and the whole Church;
(2) the strengthening, peace, and courage to endure the sufferings of illness or old age;
(3) the forgiveness of sins;
(4) the restoration of health, if it is God's will for the salvation of his soul;
(5) the preparation for passing over to eternal life.
