Dear Central Christian Church family,
Over the past few weeks, members of our congregation have become victims of several targeted, digital attacks. The majority of these messages arrived in the form of a text message (though a few people have received voicemails, read by an AI-generated voice.) Messages are sent from an anonymous/spoofed phone number, which bounces back replies or attempts to call the sender.
The eldership is taking each incident quite seriously. Evidence is being compiled on the perpetrator(s), as we are being instructed by law enforcement.
The accusations in these messages are soon discredited by their inaccuracies. They use similar language as messages sent to other congregants with a few personalized details added to cause injury to each recipient.
Our congregants are sharing their experience with church leadership, and are actively working with our ministers, elders, and law enforcement to investigate the messages.
If you (or someone you know) receives one of these messages, please reach out to the ministers of Central Christian Church, at your comfort level, to share details so evidence can be collected and preserved.
What was intended to cause strife and fear has, instead, motivated our membership to comfort and protect one another. Our church is drawing closer together AND to the God that we worship in our small, close-knit community. Genesis 50:20 βYou intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.β
After the first batch of messages, our entire membership gathered to pray for the individuals who are perpetrating this attack. We remember who the true enemy is: the Accuser. Christ is the Advocate, and Savior of all who call upon His name.
We trust in God to bring about a righteous resolution for our church community. John 1:5 βThe light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.β
