Online Interfaith Devotions: Portland
Sun Sep 6 2026, 10:30am - 11:30am

"Let us seek the song with the sweetest strains, so that it may be taken up by the angels and carried to the supreme concourse. Let us hearken to the melody which will stir the world of humanity, so that the people may be transformed with joy. . ." `Abdu’l-Bahá

Numerous scientific and psychological studies have shown that music can lift our moods, combat depression, improve blood flow in ways similar to statins, lower levels of stress-related hormones such as cortisol, and ease pain. Music can improve the outcomes for patients after surgery.

On Sunday we will explore the healing power of music—both physical and spiritual healing through music and various scientific and religious thought on music in our world. Do you have a favorite piece of music? Join us for this time together, for prayers, music and fellowship. The Zoom link is below.
Sincerely, your host, Karen🎶

"Religion and faith communities have been a part of America’ s struggle with racism throughout its history. While religion has been used to perpetuate oppression and enslavement, it has also inspired and sustained those laboring for justice. Eternal spiritual teachings and practices found across religious traditions— loving one another; recognizing our interdependence; promoting justice; and cultivating moral courage, humility, and compassion— offer vital resources for overcoming racism."

Yesterday's enemies become today's friends. When someone in power tells you to see another group as the enemy, the Baha'i teachings invite you to ask why.

Dear Friends,
The Portland Bahá’í Center will be open this Sunday for Devotions. If it’s been a while since you’ve had the opportunity to gather and pray together, come this Sunday! The theme for the Devotions is “Soul & Spirit,” and it will be accompanied by live music as we read scripture and offer prayers. Feel free to bring your favorite prayer to share. Light refreshments will be served. Take a break from your worries and join us for a refreshing start to your week. Our program will begin at 10:30 a.m., with doors opening at 10:00 a.m.

Sincerely,
Your host, Karen 🦋
