On Friday, Sept 5th, something beautiful was uncovered in Old Town. Beyond the gritty look of the streets and the chaos of a weekend night, a table was set. Together with church goers, recovering addicts, artists, young adults transitioning off the streets, business owners, non-profit leaders, those experiencing houselssness, families, shelter workers, and more, a meal was shared.

This was a tangible expression of the Kingdom as we sat side by side, unidentified by our life work or economic status, but rather through a shared humanity, an incredible meal, original song and poetry, and easy conversation.

In Old Town, a historic neighborhood often identified as a place to fear, radical hospitality was offered and community was formed.

Joy and peace filled the streets where brokenness abounds.

This was an act of intercession. A place that became Holy Ground. As we sat in the streets, welcome and laughter healed hearts and offered a piece of true home.

We are so grateful to Tom Herbert of The Longtable, Jacobsen Valentine of Feed the Mass, Lance Orton of City Team Ministries, Austie Eckley of cALLed Ministries, Augusto Piccio for the beautifully designed menu, and Charlie Kang who connected us all together and led and served continually with joy and kindness.

Thank you to the many volunteers who worked so hard over the last days to prep, to host, and to offer beauty, welcome and hospitality to our neighborhood.

We are forever changed.

The cALLed Conference is a gathering designed to highlight what God is doing in our city and inspire collective action. At the conference, you’ll hear from diverse local voices, experience worship led by gifted artists, and witness personal stories of life transformation. You’ll also have the opportunity to connect with organizations making a real impact in our community.

Our prayer is that you leave encouraged, equipped, and with a renewed hunger to love and serve the people God has uniquely called you to.

Did you know Old Town was once Portland’s red-light district?
 
Today, it’s most recognized for its homelessness crisis, but traces of its past remain. The area is still surrounded by strip clubs, including iconic places like Mary’s Club and the Star Theater.   
   
In the 1970s, the Star Theater featured erotic films, n**e dances, and live s3x shows. Though the neighborhood has evolved, its deep-rooted connection to the s3x industry is still evident.   
   
We believe God hasn’t forgotten this part of the city. We are deeply invested in Old Town, praying and working toward its renewal — a place restored to beauty, dignity, and hope.

We are establishing regular rhythms of prayer in Portland’s Old Town/China Town District to stand in intercession on behalf of our city. We believe God is moving and that we are to join in His desire for restoration and renewal.

This is not an event, but a re-entering of our lives to cry out with everything within us: "Your Kingdom Come, here in Portland." This is a cry for Shalom, for wrong things to be made right, and for a city to be built where all people flourish.

Will you join us?

The art of Kintsugi embodies new beauty made through imperfections. It is an artistry of mending broken pieces through gold, symbolically representing how brokenness in our lives can transform to places of beauty. Instead of hiding chipped and broken parts, when imperfections are pronounced, symbolising the light, you behold something that’s more beautiful. It’s an art form of mending to make new. 

In this modern “Kintsugi Experience” we will share a time of personal reflection with one another and beholding as we apply Modern Kintsugi techniques to a vessel we have brought with us.

Charlie Kang is a Korean-British photographer, currently exploring monastic living in a community in England that focuses on simplicity, creativity, and prayer. With a varied background, from studying law to being a pastor of a church, Charlie’s creativity has found its expression in many forms and often in unexpected places.Through it all, photography has been a consistent companion, forcing a rhythm of stillness in the fast-paced movements of life. As a practitioner of the contemporary form of Kintsugi, Charlie wants to help others discover the light that accompanies every shadow of life.

We would love to have you join us for the official launch of the new Portland Prayer Room in Old Town.  

Registration Link is in our bio, but not required. We just want to know you are coming!  

The doors will open one hour early (6pm) to share light refreshments, see City Team's new building, and to check out some cool merch!

During the launch, we will share the vision of the Prayer Room and enter into a time of worship and prayer together. 

We are so excited to have a team from the  lead worship. 

You won't want to miss this: invite your congregations, your family, and your friends!

We can't wait to worship with you tomorrow night (Saturday, Sept 7th) as we put a close to our week of prayer in the city of Portland.

Sessions continue tonight with a great lineup, so come on out if you can, but tomorrow we will be having a party!

*Join us at the Block Party from 4-7pm*

There will be LIVE MUSIC with and

BUILDING TOURS of City Team's new building and guided prayerwalks

Also, food, games, and small inflatables for the kids.

*At 7pm, we will have our final set or prayer and worship with Steve and Jahana McCoy*
