Bethel Lutheran was founded in 1873 as Norwegian Lutheran Church or Porter and changed its name to Bethel Lutheran Church in 1964 in conjunction with the move to the current church building.

Barbara Jane Pronk, age 85, of Marshall, MN, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Friday, August 7, 2026 at her home in Marshall. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 13th at Bethel Lutheran Church in Porter, MN and will be streamed live on Bethel's page. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7pm on Wednesday, August 12th at the Houseman Funeral Home-Birk Chapel in Canby, MN with a prayer service at 7pm. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at the Bethel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Porter, MN. Houseman Funeral Home-Birk Chapel in Canby, MN has been entrusted with the arrangements.
