GOD CAN USE WHAT YOU WOULD HAVE NEVER CHOSEN

Genesis 50:19-21
“And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God?
But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.
Now therefore fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spake kindly unto them.”

Joseph does not pretend the past was good.
He says plainly:
“YE THOUGHT EVIL AGAINST ME.”
The betrayal was evil.
The slavery was evil.
The false accusation was evil.
The prison was painful.
But evil did not get the final word.
“BUT GOD MEANT IT UNTO GOOD.”
His brothers had a plan.
BUT GOD HAD A PLAN.
The prison door shut.
BUT GOD’S PURPOSE DID NOT.
This is the doctrine of providence. God is sovereign over the events of life, and nothing catches Him off guard. That does not mean God calls evil good or approves of sin. It means sinful men cannot overthrow His purpose.
Milton Hershey learned that failure does not always mean the road is over. His first candy business failed after years of work. He tried again in New York, and that business failed too. But those failures forced him to learn what he did not yet know about production, money, suppliers, and how to build a business that could last. When he finally succeeded, he was using lessons he had learned in seasons he would have never chosen.
WHAT LOOKED LIKE WASTED YEARS BECAME PART OF HIS PREPARATION.
Joseph’s story goes much deeper.
The pit was part of the road to Egypt.
Egypt was part of the road to Pharaoh.
Pharaoh was part of the road to saving many people alive.
Joseph could not see Genesis 50 while he was living in Genesis 39.
And you will not always understand what God is doing while you are in the middle of it.
A door may close.
A friendship may change.
A plan may collapse.
Someone may treat you unfairly.
Something you prayed for may never happen.
DO NOT CONFUSE AN UNFINISHED STORY WITH A RUINED STORY.
Joseph refused to let what happened to him control what happened inside him. When his brothers stood before him, he did not choose revenge. He said:
“Am I in the place of God?”
He left judgment with God and kept his own heart right.
You may not understand the chapter you are in, but you can still obey God in it. You can forgive. You can stay faithful. You can keep serving. You can refuse bitterness.
You do not need to see the finished picture to trust the God who already does.
WHAT OTHERS DO TO YOU DOES NOT HAVE MORE POWER THAN WHAT GOD CAN DO THROUGH IT.
The pit was not the end.
The prison was not the end.
And the chapter hurting you right now does not get to declare itself the ending.
GOD IS STILL WRITING AFTER THE PART THAT HURT.

🚗 TRUTH FROM THE DRIVER’S SEAT
Truth from the Driver’s Seat is a series of short, bold, practical Bible videos recorded by Pastor Josh Jacquard from, you guessed it, the driver’s seat.
Pastor Josh spends a lot of time on the road. His vehicle has become a place to pray, think through Scripture, work through sermon ideas, and consider what the Lord is dealing with in his own heart.
Sometimes a truth is too important to leave sitting in a notebook.
So he pulls over, turns on the camera, and shares it.
These are not polished studio productions or full-length sermons. They are honest, Bible-centered thoughts meant to challenge you, encourage you, and help you apply God’s Word to real life.
Some will encourage you.
Some will confront you.
Some might step on your toes.
That is the point.
So buckle up.
This is Truth from the Driver’s Seat, where biblical truth meets everyday life.

DECIDE WHO YOU ARE BEFORE TEMPTATION DECIDES FOR YOU

Genesis 39:7-9
“And it came to pass after these things, that his master's wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said, Lie with me.
But he refused, and said unto his master's wife, Behold, my master wotteth not what is with me in the house, and he hath committed all that he hath to my hand;
There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?”

Joseph did not need time to think about it.
HE REFUSED.
He did not call it an opportunity.
He did not blame loneliness.
He did not excuse it because nobody was watching.
He called it exactly what it was:
“Great wickedness, and sin against God.”
That is conviction.
Temptation always tries to soften the language.
Sin becomes “a mistake.”
Lust becomes “just looking.”
Compromise becomes “being realistic.”
But changing the name does not change what God calls it.
IF GOD CALLS IT WRONG, YOUR FEELINGS DO NOT GET TO RENAME IT.
Joseph understood that sin is ultimately against God. Sin is not merely breaking a rule or disappointing people. It is disobedience against the God who created us, knows us, and sees everything.
That is why Joseph’s first question was not, “Will Potiphar find out?”
It was:
“HOW THEN CAN I DO THIS GREAT WICKEDNESS, AND SIN AGAINST GOD?”
Joseph had plenty of excuses he could have used.
He was far from home.
His family was not watching.
He had been treated unfairly.
The temptation kept coming.
Genesis 39:10
“And it came to pass, as she spake to Joseph day by day, that he hearkened not unto her, to lie by her, or to be with her.”
Day by day.
Joseph did not just refuse the sin. He refused to stay close to it.
That matters.
If something keeps feeding your flesh, get away from it.
If an app keeps pulling you toward sin, delete it.
If a relationship is dragging you somewhere you should not go, put distance between you and it.
YOU DO NOT PROVE STRENGTH BY STANDING CLOSE TO TEMPTATION. SOMETIMES STRENGTH LOOKS LIKE RUNNING.
In April 2026, 18-year-old Chick-fil-A employee Jaydon Cintron was on break in Kinston, North Carolina, when he found two envelopes in a restroom containing nearly $10,000 in cash.
He could have kept it.
Nobody had handed it to him.
Nobody was standing there watching.
Instead, he immediately turned the money in. When he was asked why, his answer was simple: “That’s not what Jesus would’ve done.” He later said that money was useless without character.
That is the issue.
WHO ARE YOU WHEN YOU COULD GET AWAY WITH IT?
Character is not proved when everybody is watching. It is proved when doing wrong is available, convenient, and hidden.
Joseph eventually ran from Potiphar’s wife.
And doing right cost him.
He lost his position.
He lost his freedom.
He ended up in prison.
But he kept his integrity.
That should encourage you.
Doing right may not make life easier immediately, but obedience is never wasted. God was still with Joseph in prison just as surely as He had been with him in Potiphar’s house.
You may lose something by doing right.
Take the loss.
God sees it.
God knows it.
And nothing you surrender in obedience is worth more than a clean conscience before Him.
Decide your convictions before temptation arrives.
Know what Scripture says.
Know where the lines are.
Do not wait until your flesh is doing the talking to decide what you believe.
THE BEST TIME TO DECIDE WHAT YOU WILL DO IN TEMPTATION IS BEFORE TEMPTATION STARTS MAKING OFFERS.
Refuse.
Run when necessary.
Keep your integrity.
IT IS BETTER TO LOSE SOMETHING DOING RIGHT THAN TO KEEP EVERYTHING BY DOING WRONG.

BUILD ALTARS, NOT JUST EXPERIENCES

Genesis 12:7-8
“And the LORD appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land: and there builded he an altar unto the LORD, who appeared unto him.
And he removed from thence unto a mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west, and Hai on the east: and there he builded an altar unto the LORD, and called upon the name of the LORD.”

Abraham had incredible experiences with God. God spoke to him, led him, appeared unto him, and gave him promises.

But something kept showing up in his life:

ALTARS.

Christianity was never meant to be lived from one spiritual high to the next.

You cannot live all year on one revival meeting.
You cannot survive on the memory of one powerful sermon.

A STRONG WALK WITH GOD IS BUILT BY WHAT YOU DO REGULARLY, NOT WHAT YOU FEEL OCCASIONALLY.

God does not change when your feelings change. His Word is settled, His promises are sure, and His faithfulness never rises and falls with your emotions.

Some Christians love the experience but never build the altar.

They love the preaching, but the Bible stays closed on Monday.
They love surrender, but nothing changes when they get home.

They want fire without fuel.

An altar says, “I am going to meet with God whether I feel emotional or not.”

If you have gotten inconsistent, distracted, dry, or spiritually weak, start rebuilding today.

Open the Bible again.
Pray again.
Get back in your place.
Obey again.

In 1914, Ernest Shackleton and his crew became stranded in Antarctic ice. Their survival was not built on one heroic moment. It was built on disciplined routines they kept day after day in brutal conditions.

That is a picture of the Christian life.

You do not stay spiritually strong because you had one great Sunday.

You stay strong because you keep building the altar.

DO NOT JUST ASK GOD FOR AN EXPERIENCE. BUILD A LIFE THAT CAN CARRY WHAT GOD DOES IN THAT EXPERIENCE.

Keep the Bible open.
Keep praying.
Keep showing up.
Keep obeying.

Because when the feelings fade, THE ALTAR IS WHAT KEEPS THE FIRE BURNING.
