A MESSAGE FROM
PASTOR MASKE
Dear Mighty Messengers,
St. Paul, a fellow Mighty Messenger, stood in the middle of Athens surrounded by idols and proclaimed that Jesus Christ is risen from the dead and Lord over all.
What makes that even more remarkable is this: Paul once helped persecute the Church for preaching that very message. He approved of Stephen’s death when Stephen confessed that the crucified and risen Jesus reigns at the right hand of God.
But then the risen Jesus appeared to Paul.
The lordship of Jesus was no longer merely something Paul opposed. It became the center of his life, his preaching, his suffering, and his hope. The man who once hunted Christians now suffered gladly for Christ because he knew Jesus truly was alive and reigning over all things.
That same truth changes our lives too.
Jesus is not merely a religious teacher or moral example. He is Lord over heaven and earth, over nations and history, over life and death.
That means your life is not ruled by chaos, fear, politics, sickness, death, or the shifting powers of this world. Christ reigns over all of it.
Jesus tells His disciples, “I will not leave you as orphans” (John 14:18). Though crucified, risen, and ascended, He still comes to His people through His Word and Spirit.
And Peter reminds us that Jesus suffered, died, rose again, ascended into heaven, and now all angels, authorities, and powers are subject to Him.
There is nowhere Christ is not Lord:
He is Lord over suffering,
Lord over death,
Lord over hell,
Lord over your fears,
and Lord over your future.
And because He is Lord over all,
there is nowhere His mercy, victory, and life cannot reach.
In Baptism, He claimed you as His own. Your sins are forgiven. Death has been defeated. You belong to the risen and reigning Christ.
Jesus changed Paul’s life completely.
And He still changes ours.
Christ is risen. Christ reigns. Christ is Lord over all!

A MESSAGE FROM
PASTOR NAUMANN 🙏🏼✝️
Witnesses to Those Near and Far
Peter understood it. John understood it, and so did Andrew, James, Thomas, Philip, and all the other followers of Jesus. They knew who Jesus is, and what He had done for the salvation of the world through His sacrificial death and resurrection. They knew that they were eye witnesses who had personally experienced Jesus’ saving work, and they knew that they had been entrusted by their Savior with the mission of getting His word out to the world. The same is true for us today. While we are not eye witnesses of Jesus’ death and resurrection in quite the same way that they were, nevertheless we have experienced firsthand what Jesus has done in our lives and is still doing, and therefore we too can speak with boldness and confidence about what we believe based on what the Holy Spirit has revealed to us in the Bible.
But who do we tell? In his first epistle, St. Peter says that we should tell anyone who asks us the reason for the hope we have (see 1 Peter 3:15). Now, in our first Scripture reading for this weekend from Acts 2, we hear St. Peter on the Day of Pentecost reminding people that the good news of Jesus Christ is also for their “children” and for all those who are “far off.” That means that we are witnesses to those who are close to us, including our family and those under our roof. But in addition we are also witnesses to people on the other side of the world through our support of foreign missions. May the Holy Spirit help us personally, and as a congregation, continue to be witnesses of who Jesus is and what He has done until He comes again.

January 6 marks the beginning of the season of Epiphany, which ends with Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent. The word Epiphany come from the Greek epiphainein which means "to reveal". Epiphany is often called the season of light and is frequently associated with the visit of the Magi to the newborn Jesus. Epiphany reveals to the world who Jesus really is, the promised Messiah. Jesus is revealed as both fully man and fully God who was born to live a perfect life, die on the cross, and rise from the dead, all on our behalf! Epiphany is one of the oldest celebrations in the Christian church and dates back to the beginning of the third century. This ancient observance is a great way to keep our minds focused on Jesus during our busy days and hectic schedules.
