Viola Liuzzo was a Detroit UU mother of five who was murdered after the Selma to Montgomery march. Her family and those of others who died in that struggle were asked about the Supreme Court's Callias v. Louisiana decision that effectively ended the Voting Rights Act. It has not sat well with them.

Like a mosaic, humanity is made up of countless unique pieces, each bringing its own beauty, perspective, and story. Together, these differences create something richer and more vibrant than any one piece could alone. This theme celebrates the
commitment to diversity and pluralism at the heart of our Unitarian Universalist faith that affirms that every person is inherently worthy and deserving of dignity, love, and compassion.

In a time when differences are too often viewed as barriers, Mosaic invites us to see diversity as a source of wisdom, resilience, and hope. Throughout the coming year, we will explore how our varied experiences, cultures, beliefs, and identities can deepen our understanding of one another and inspire us to build a more just,
compassionate, and connected world.
