Today is Monday of the Tenth Week in Ordinary Time

The Gospel for today is Matthew 5:1-12

When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain,
and after he had sat down, his disciples came to him.
He began to teach them, saying:

“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are they who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the land.
Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be satisfied.
Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the clean of heart,
for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness,
for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you
and utter every kind of evil against you falsely because of me.
Rejoice and be glad,
for your reward will be great in heaven.
Thus they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”

Today is the Feast of the Solemnity of Corpus Christi

The Solemnity of Corpus Christi, also known as the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, celebrates the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. In the early 13th century, St. Juliana of Liège spread her strong devotion to the Eucharist in her local community. In 1246 the first local celebrations of Corpus Christi occurred, and in 1264, Corpus Christi became a feast in the whole Church. While we celebrate Jesus in the Eucharist at every Mass, this Solemnity particularly reminds us that the Eucharist is the “source and summit of the Christian life” (Lumen gentium). Many parishes have a Eucharistic Procession on Corpus Christi as a way to adore Christ and publicly acknowledge their faith. The Solemnity of Corpus Christi is celebrated the Thursday after Trinity Sunday, but in the United States it is typically moved to the Sunday.

🙏 Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, pray for us! 🙏💕

This weekend, Catholics all over the world will celebrate the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, the Body and Blood of Jesus.

My Eucharistic Lord,
please instill in me
a profound love for You
Who are truly present in the Most Holy Eucharist.
May I always adore You, believe in You, hope in You, and love You.
I pray that my faith and devotion to You
in this Most Holy Sacrament will more fully unite my soul to Yours
and that my love and devotion will be a source of reparation
for the indifference with which You are so often treated.

Jesus, present in the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar, I trust in You!

The Eucharist is the source and Summit of the Catholic faith, and here's where you can get more info on what the Eucharist is and why we believe it's really Jesus: https://ewtnmission.com/seasonsandfeastdays/corpuschristi/

Today is the Memorial of Saint Norbert, Bishop

Patron Saint of expectant mothers and Bohemia

St. Norbert founded the Premonstratensians, also known as the Norbertines, in France during the 12th century. He based the Norbertines on principles of both the Rule of St. Augustine and the Cistercians, blending the pastoral practices of the Rule, with the austere practices of the Cistercians. Later in his life, he became Archbishop of Magdeburg, where he combined his ministry with personal contemplative prayer to renew faith in the diocese.

“Faith was the outstanding virtue of Norbert’s life. Affable and charming, amiable to one and all, he was at ease in the company of the humble and the great alike.” -From the life of St. Norbert

Today is the Memorial of Saint Boniface, Bishop and Martyr

Patron Saint of Germany and Brewers

St. Boniface was a Benedictine monk who dedicated his life to building the Catholic Church in Germany in the 700s. Originally from England, he was sent to continental Europe to serve as a missionary in the eighth century. Boniface came to Germany in the middle of many regional wars, a situation that he would try to stabilize in his preaching. While he worked to convert the pagans in Germany, many sects vied for Boniface’s loyalty, but he remained loyal to the pope and the Church. In 754, he was martyred by one of the groups he had worked with for years. Every year there are celebrations for his feast in Germany, Netherlands, and England.

Today is the Memorial of St. Elizabeth Hesselblad

Patron Saint of Bridgittines and Nurses

St. Elizabeth Hesselblad was born into a Lutheran family in Sweden in 1870. In 1888, she moved to the United States to study nursing, and in 1902, she converted to the Catholic faith while living in Washington, D.C. After her conversion, she returned to Europe, and during a pilgrimage to Rome, she visited the house of St. Bridget of Sweden. From this experience, she decided to start a new branch of the Briggitines that focused on Christian unity and caring for the sick. This community was founded in the 1930s and remains the largest group of Briggitines in the world today. They remain dedicated to the charisms which Elizabeth emphasized in her establishment of a new branch of Briggitines: Christian unity and caring for the sick. During World War II, Elizabeth helped shelter Jews and other racially-oppressed peoples. For her actions during the war, she is now recognized as one of the Righteous Among the Nations: a list of non-Jews who provided care to Jews during World War II at the risk of their own life.
