CELEBRATING PENTECOST SUNDAY: The Birth of the Church
Today, May 24, 2026, we celebrate Pentecost Sunday, observing the miraculous birth of the Christian Church as recorded in the second chapter of the Book of Acts.
“When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.” — Acts 2:1-4
Falling exactly fifty days after Easter Sunday, Pentecost marks the sacred day of the Christian church’s beginning.
Prior to this momentous day, the one hundred and twenty disciples maintained an unwavering focus. Obeying Christ’s command to wait for the "power from on high," they dedicated themselves entirely to prayer, supplication, and patient waiting—bound together in harmonious expectancy.
The Gift of the Holy Spirit
On that fiftieth day, the promise of the Lord was faithfully fulfilled. Because the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father and the Son, every member of Christ’s body—the Church—can boldly pray, ask, and receive the baptism of the Spirit.
The Holy Spirit is freely given to be our Comforter, Helper, and Advocate. Through Him, we are granted:
• Illumination and Knowledge: Divine insight into God's word and truth.
• Faith and Comfort: Unshakable peace and strength in times of trial.
• Adoption and Assurance: The ultimate seal and deposit guaranteeing our future glory.
An Invitation to Prayer
If you have never received the Holy Spirit, ask today and God will respond. Turn your heart to heaven and pray:
“Father, in Jesus’ name, fill me overflowing with Your Holy Spirit and with power. Amen.”
