CELEBRATING PENTECOST SUNDAY: The Birth of the Church
Today, May 24, 2026, we celebrate Pentecost Sunday, observing the miraculous birth of the Christian Church as recorded in the second chapter of the Book of Acts.

“When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.” — Acts 2:1-4

Falling exactly fifty days after Easter Sunday, Pentecost marks the sacred day of the Christian church’s beginning.

Prior to this momentous day, the one hundred and twenty disciples maintained an unwavering focus. Obeying Christ’s command to wait for the "power from on high," they dedicated themselves entirely to prayer, supplication, and patient waiting—bound together in harmonious expectancy.

The Gift of the Holy Spirit

On that fiftieth day, the promise of the Lord was faithfully fulfilled. Because the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father and the Son, every member of Christ’s body—the Church—can boldly pray, ask, and receive the baptism of the Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is freely given to be our Comforter, Helper, and Advocate. Through Him, we are granted:

• Illumination and Knowledge: Divine insight into God's word and truth.

• Faith and Comfort: Unshakable peace and strength in times of trial.

• Adoption and Assurance: The ultimate seal and deposit guaranteeing our future glory.

An Invitation to Prayer

If you have never received the Holy Spirit, ask today and God will respond. Turn your heart to heaven and pray:

“Father, in Jesus’ name, fill me overflowing with Your Holy Spirit and with power. Amen.”

ALL FOR JESUS - Following Jesus requires more than simply having an intellectual assent, it also requires committing yourself to Christ in every area of life. This is non-negotiable. He must be Lord of all, or not at all (Romans 14:7–9). A true disciple must surrender themselves completely to the Lordship of Christ. The Bible emphasizes the need for faith, obedience, self-denial, and actively living as His ambassador.

Key Verses on Following Jesus:

Self-Denial & Faith: "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me." – Matthew 16:24

The Call to Discipleship: "And he said to them, 'Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.'" – Matthew 4:19

Guidance: "Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, 'I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.'" – John 8:12

Obedience: "“But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do the things which I say?" - Luke 6:46

"Walk in obedience to all that the LORD your God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you will possess." - Deuteronomy 5:33

Daily Action: "Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me." – Luke 9:23

MARILYN HICKEY DIES AT 94 - It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Dr. Marilyn Hickey on Saturday, April 25, 2026. A faithful servant of God, Marilyn dedicated her life to teaching God's Word--inspiring faith in countless lives. Her ministry has taken the gospel and God’s healing power to millions in over 140 nations. Though we mourn this loss, we find peace in knowing she is now in the presence of Jesus and we're sure her ministry will continue for many years to come. Her daughter, Sarah Bowling, intends to carry on her legacy in ministry. Please join us in praying for her family and loved ones during this time of grieving.

Matthew Versace commented: "Awww...I loved watching her when I was a kid. She was an easy-to- understand teacher, who simplified things in an enjoyable way. I always loved when she would say things like, "Say yuck three times. Yuck! Yuck! Yuck!" about something disagreeable to God. It always made me chuckle."

Ayo Akerele also wrote: "Mother Hickey has gone to the city where the roses never fade. What a life! What a legend! At the ripe age of 95, heaven has finally gained another saint. The miraculous encounters I read about in her ministry had a phenomenal impact on my life and ministry. We celebrate her many years of global impact and incredible achievements for the kingdom of God."

I will always treasure the memory of meeting her personally in North Miami back in the day, when she was speaking at a local church I had attended for the event. She was a delightful person, an anointed Bible teacher, and faithful handmaiden of God.
