As our children gain adulthood we watch them step out on their own and our roles shift from daily supervisors of them. In our prayers we ask God to continue to protect and guide them with wisdom and purpose when we are no longer able to directly manage their choices.

We ask that God will guard their hearts, minds, and steps, and to replace our own parental anxieties with trust and peace. We also pray that their roots in faith grow deeper and that they will always be surrounded by people who also have a strong belief in Christ!

"When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things." ~ 1 Corinthians 13:11

Yesterday was another blessed day at PRRC. We so enjoyed the Praise Band music and the youth lessen by Adriana Kurtz and Kevin Cox. Pastor Jace's message at PRRC was titled 'The Goodness of God. Another strong message from Pastor Jace and here are a few highlights:

The Shepherd
Why do God's people need a shepherd? In spite of all God's goodness people continue to fall away. We need a shepherd because we are like sheep and we need a shepherd to guide and provide for us.

"He leads me in paths of righteousness." ~ Psalm 23-3
He will not lead us to sin; God leads His people through His son and His word. The Bible gives us clear guidance and wisdom. When we are struggling God is giving us His wisdom if we invite Him to help us.

The Shepherd leads us through suffering. Jesus has passed through His own suffering so He is the one who knows what we are going through. Jesus is always with us!

A message for our teens...(and some of us grownups, too!)

'Whoever has the idea that all the things God wants you to do are dull must not like to swim or listen to music, or eat, or have dates. Jesus went around when He was here on Earth saying, "Be of good cheer'. In the language of our day, He would have walked into a group of teens and said, with what must have been the most wonderful smile in the world, "Hello kids. Have fun! Use up that energy; I gave it to you to use!"' ~ from the book by Eugenia Price 'Never a Dull Moment - Honest Questions by Teen-agers.

This doesn't mean we can do anything we want - especially things we know are wrong. As we grow up it is about finding that healthy balance between living responsibly and making sure we take the time to actually enjoy the journey!

"Rejoice, young person, while you are young, and let your heart be glad in the days of your youth. Follow the ways of your heart and the desire of your eyes, but know that for all of these things God will bring you to judgment." ~ Ecclesiastes 11:9

Last Sunday we celebrated Pentecost at Port Republic Riverside Church. Many beautiful red geraniums were donated in memory of loved ones...here are just a few of them that brightened our Sunday at PRRC! The deep red hues of the geraniums represent the ultimate sacrifice and passion of Jesus Christ and the eternal love of God.

"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit." ~ Romans 15:13

Pastor Jace's message on Sunday was about how our expectations of eternity shape our preparation for it. Key points were:

Heaven is a world of peace. Believers will dwell with God securely in the new creation with no suffering or conflict.

Heaven is a world of holiness. Heaven comforts us that we will be without sin and motivates us to pursue holiness no matter the cost.

Heaven is a world of love. The greatest of all eternity's blessings is reflected in the one phrase, 'they shall his His face'. (Robert Mounce). Perfect fellowship with God which satisfies our soul is the hope to which we look in this life.

"Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends." - John 15:13.

Today we observe Memorial Day. Memorial Day is a solemn time to remember and grieve the service members who gave their lives to protect the freedoms we enjoy today. We say a prayer of thanks for those who paid the ultimate price. We lift up the military families still navigating the pain of loss. And we reflect on the freedom our faith provides, and thank God for the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus.
