Colby United Methodist Church

Colby United Methodist Church You're invited to join us on Sundays at 10:30am for worship and fellowship. Our congregation is open to ALL! Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors.

About God - We believe God is love. We believe God is revealed in the Trinity as Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer - also known as the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We strive to follow the model of Jesus, who taught us to love God and love our neighbors as ourselves. The Bible is the primary source of our theology, and we also take into account church tradition, personal experience, and reason to g

uide our faith. About People - We believe all people are created in the image of God and that each person is of sacred worth. We welcome everyone: spiritual seekers, lost souls, confident Christians, sinners, saints, and skeptics. United Methodists have a long history of charity and relief work, and of advocating for justice and full participation of all people in church and society, regardless of race, nationality, ethnic background, gender, physical ability, or economic means. Learn more about our Social Principles here. We believe each person has been given gifts for ministry that are meant to help heal and serve the world. God's table is open to all.

Please join us this Sunday as we begin a new worship series.
Our worship series for Lent this year is from Sanctified Art. The title and theme of our worship series is cultivating and letting go.
To cultivate means to prepare for the raising of crops; to foster the growth of; to improve by labor, care, or study; to refine; to further; to encourage.
To let go means to relinquish one's grip on someone or something.
Anyone who has ever planted a garden, tended flowers, or landscaped a yard knows that any kind of gardening is a process of cultivating and letting go. Cultivating plants requires effort, energy, intention, and care. The soil needs to be prepared, seeds or starts planted. Plants must be tended, watered, and nourished.
But gardeners also know about letting go, knowing that they can’t control all the factors that determine whether or how what they plant will grow and thrive.
So, gardening teaches us that cultivating requires patience, waiting, relinquishing control, letting go. And that sometimes some plants need to be let go of, removed to make room for others to grow and thrive.
This year, our worship theme invites us to see the 6 weeks leading up to Easter as a season of spiritual gardening, embracing the literal and spiritual practices of cultivating and letting go. Focusing on what God is cultivating in and through us, in our individual lives and in our life as a community of faith. And also exploring what we might need to let go of to allow space for something new to grow.
Everyone is welcome. Come as you are. We hope you will join us.
