It's all about FOCUS!!!! Part VI

Philippians 4:8 (MEV)

8 Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honest, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue, and if there is any praise, think on these things.

How do we truly FOCUS in this life? It is very simple. Here is the formula.

F....fixate our minds on the things of God.

O ...open our eyes fully to a lost world.

C....create an atmosphere of forgiveness toward others.

U.... understand that God is fully in control of every situation.

S....set out every day to further God's plan for your life.

A few weeks ago, we began discussing this topic. With so much going on today, it is easy to lose sight and focus on God and the things of God. It is imperative that we not do that. God is the author and finisher of our faith. The beginning and the end. If we are honest with our self, we will admit that we have lost focus on the things of God a time or two, maybe even right now. We see what's going on and we question God's motive, maybe we blame this all on him. We just lose our way. Well how do we not lose focus. How do we FOCUS. A few weeks ago, I gave a simple formula to that. Today we will finish our study on FOCUS. This week, we will cover the "S". Set out every day to further Gods plan for our life.

We can all agree that we believe that Go has a plan for us. When I was younger, I thought it was a mystical magical thing to know Gods plan. Was He going to come to me audibly like he did Moses? Was he going to stand in front of me? Was he going to appear in the form of a burning bush? Was he going to let his plan fall to the ground for me like he did manna from heaven? So many different scenarios. What I told you that his plan was already laid out, and we can know it. He isn’t hiding from us at all. He desires for all of us to be in his will. So, what does the bible say about the situation? Let's dive in.

Jeremiah 29:11-14 (MEV)

11 For I know the plans that I have for you, says the Lord, plans for peace and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. 12 Then you shall call upon Me, and you shall come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. 13 You shall seek Me and find Me, when you shall search for Me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you, says the Lord, and I will turn away your captivity and gather you from all the nations and from all the places where I have driven you, says the Lord, and I will bring you back into the place from where I caused you to be carried away captive.

A way to know that you are following God’s plan for your life is by being in prayer. Take time each day to devote yourself to the Lord and the plans he has for your life. If you are giving each area of your life to God, then he will bless it and be able to work through it abundantly.

So how do we further Gods plan for our life?

Live a life full of peace and contentment. Vs. 11

Have you ever met someone that was not full of peace? Nothing is ever right, nothing is ever good enough, complains about everything. We all know someone like this, maybe it's us. This is not of God. God’s people here are in captivity which they were often, but God gives specific instructions for them. Showed them how to act, how to survive, showed them what was going to happen to their capturers and deceivers. Through all this, Gods plan is peace. This is so powerful; we need to get this and get this now. We are living in a world full of contention, uneasiness, unrest, lack of FOCUS, but God wants us to have peace. WE need to be his light in this dark world. Jesus did this his entire earthly ministry. The world was far from God, full of unrest, lack of contentment lack of FOCUS. Sound familiar; and what did Jesus do, he showed his peace, he showed his compassion, he showed his love. This is what we are here for, to show the peace and love that only Jesus can offer.

Seek God every day. Vs. 12

If we don’t seek Gods face every day, there is no FOCUS in this life. We discussed before that God is relational and created us to be relational as well. We cannot further Gods plan if we don’t seek him every day. I said earlier that God is not hiding from us. The great thing about this passage is that it says you shall come and pray to me and I will listen, it also says that you will seek me and find me. WOW, all we must do is seek him, and he is there. You all know that I am not big on religion at all, I despise it actually, but what other religion out there can you seek the creator and he is there, Jesus is alive, he defeated death , hell and the grave and has given us victory over this world. He offers us everything, if we just seek. You see it's not that God is holding out, but it is the action from us to come to him because he will not force himself into our life. God has done everything already for salvation, we need to do nothing but seek him.

So, we see how to further Gods plan for our lives, but how to we discover what his plan is? I'm about to get really simple because that is how I learn. We need not to make it difficult.

Galatians 5:22-25 (MEV)

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 meekness, and self-control; against such there is no law. 24 Those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and lusts. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

Some of my favorite verses. It is not rocket science here. In Galatians 5, the fruits of the spirit are gone over. Now, what is a fruit. (great, now I’m hungry), Fruits start as a seed, they are planted, tendered, taken care of, then they flourish, grow and produce so that everyone can see and enjoy. Well, we are the fruit; we must be. If we are going to reach and transform this world for Christ, we must display the fruit. This is God's plan for you. He has done all the work, It's our job to point people to him. We do this by living a life full of love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and self-control.

Conviction setting in right now, how many of us are displaying all these fruits? I stopped counting the ones I need work on. Patience is a big one for me, I need work, BADLY. The reality is that if we don’t seek God every day and rely on him, we will NOT be the fruit and we will NOT be living his plan for our life. Let’s take it another step further, there is no way we can FOCUS in this world if we are not displaying the fruit because our mind will be elsewhere.

Let’s get personal. So, what now? We need to truly examine our life. I am right now. Where do we need work? We know where we struggle, ask God every day to help you and make you better in these areas. He will listen, hear and help you. I can promise that. Take that step right now, call out to him and follow his direction.

Weeks we spent on this topic of FOCUS. We will not reach people and show the LOVE of Jesus if we lack FOCUS. Take the formula. Use and apply it to your life. Do not let the conditions in the world right now deter you form serving God and following his plan.

If you enjoyed this lesson, please reach out to me and let me know. Please, Please, like it and share it to your page. We are reaching the people in corners of the world right now. The USA, Trinidad, Tobago, Nigeria, Jordan, Ecuador, Mexico and South Korea all have people reading Strong Tower and I’m thankful. To God be the glory for that.

It's all about FOCUS!!!! Part V

Philippians 4:8 (MEV)

A few weeks ago, I gave a simple formula to that. This week, we will cover the "U". Understand that God is control of every situation.

Are we living our life like God is in control, or that God has your back. I’ve often wondered where was God at times Am I the only one? C’mon now, I can’t be the only one. We find ourselves going through trials, going through tribulations, seems like our world is falling apart before our very eyes. We ask ourselves, where is God, does he see what I’m going through, Why is he letting me go through this? This is when is the easiest to lose FOCUS on the task at hand. Does the Bible teach about God being in control? I believe it does. Let’s take a practical look at this, and hopefully you can take a nugget or two to chew on this week.

Philippians 4:6-7 (ESV)

6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Joshua 1:8-9 (ESV)

8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. 9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.ā€

Let’s quickly look at one situation and apply it. Moses was a great leader; we can all agree on that. In Joshua 1, Moses died, God’s people needed a leader. Joshua was to take over. Joshua was not prepared in his mind to take over He has trained with Moses, been his right-hand man, but never the front man. He was full of fear probably, full of questions probably, probably losing FOCUS of God’s plan for his people. God came to him and explained a few things that I want to share with you.

How do we understand that God is fully in control?

1. By accepting the fact that God is always with us. Joshua 1:9c

Over and over is Joshua 1, God told Joshua that the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. This is a sobering thought. God is the creator of the universe, formed and sculpted the earth is 6 days, created everything we see, but also has the time to make it personal and take time and care about us. See God cares about people. Yes, he created the earth, but God is relational. He cares deeply about you and me. Joshua was taking on a mighty task. Maybe he had thoughts about failure, maybe he lost FOCUS, maybe he thought he wasn’t ready; but God came to him and said, I am with you wherever you go. WOW, WOW, and WOW!!! What if we lived our life like God was with us and in full control. Think about the Faith and power that would flow through us. God wants that for us. WE are holding ourselves back. WHY? God wants to use us in a great and mighty way, why not let him. Just like this verse says, the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. Do not lose FOCUS of that promise.

2. By focusing and following Gods word. Joshua 1:8b

Once we accept the fact that God is always with us, and we fully grasp that, then and only then can we let Gods power rule our life. We have a desire to learn Gods word, think on God's word and the verse says we will have a desire to do all that is written therein. Do you have that desire? Joshua had the desire and had faith to follow God and his plan. What is odd I that we have the completed word of God, beginning to end and we fail to read and study it, then we miss out on so much and our faith doesn’t grow, and it shows. I’m speaking to myself right now as much as writing to you. How's your personal devotional life? Do you carve out time every day to spend time with God? If not, chances are, you have lost FOCUS, and are not following God’s plan and direction. Joshua knew, he could not fully do his job and fully be who he needed to be without Gods word and direction. What about us?

3. By allowing only God to lead us. Joshua 1:8c

I missed this part for years with this passage. I’ve studied it numerous times. A couple years ago, we looked at it a little here on Strong Tower. Catch what it says, after we realize God is always with us, after we accept his power and focus on and follow his word, then and only then, It says we make our way prosperous and have good success. If I could do a cartwheel, I would be doing them over and over right now. I missed that for years. It’s all a formula and its right here. Nothing is about us, it’s all about God. We already said God is relational, he loves us more that we can imagine. He wants to consume our lives, but we don’t let him. We compartmentalize him to only a part of our life, when he is to be all our life, he wants to be the thing that everything in our life hinges on. It can’t work any other way. We let him in, we follow his direction and he leads us to success in life. Let God loose out of the compartment you have him in and let him lead and guide. You will be amazed what happens when you do this. You will be guaranteed to never lose FOCUS of the goal which is to glorify God and lead people to him by displaying his love and forgiveness in your life

On a personal note. I’ve been deeply moved by this lesson. I’ve lost FOCUS in certain areas. One of which is this lesson. We may say that God is fully in control, but is he really in your life? Is he really in my life? Are you letting him guide your every step? I will promise you this, he will never fail, and he will never leave you. I often find myself straying away but let me encourage you it is natural. We are flesh, satan fights every day, he seeks whom he may devour. This life is a marathon, not a quick race. If we fall, if we stumble, GET BACK UP, God is there for us. Which leads me to our last scripture posted above. If we follow these three things, give it all to God, we have the promise that God will give us an unexplainable peace to live this life with. I need that, what about you? That is where we measure success from. Satan creates catastrophe but God is the author of peace. When God flows his peace through you, nothing else matters. We will still have trials, we will still have hard times, that we talked about earlier, but we are letting God handle things on our behalf, he guides us and strengthens us. He NEVER leaves us. SO don’t lose FOCUS in this life, God is always with us.

It's all about FOCUS!!!! Part IV

This week, we will cover the "C". Create an atmosphere of forgiveness toward others.

Let’s first talk about what forgiveness is. It is defined as the action or process of forgiving or being forgiven. Psychologists generally define forgiveness as a conscious, deliberate decision to release feelings of resentment or vengeance toward a person or group who has harmed you, regardless of whether they deserve your forgiveness. Forgiveness does not mean you forget, nor does it mean condoning or excusing offences. My prayer is that through this lesson you will fully realize that forgiveness is more about your well-being than anything else.

Ephesians 4:32 (MEV)

32 And be kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ also forgave you.

I want you to think about this text as we dive into this topic. We can only display true forgiveness because of Christ. We cannot FOCUS in this Christian walk without it. All our words are moot if we cannot forgive others. What does a true Godly person look like, refer to the verse. We are kind, we are tender hearted, we forgive one another. Why? Because God has forgiven us.

So, what happens in a Christians life when we forgive others. This is what will apply to our life.

We will have a change in perception, or better put, we will look at things differently. Vs. 32a

This is where kindness to one another comes in. If we can find out how to have compassion in everyday life, it will lead to an immediate change of perception. Consider how you feel when you imagine the following things, a bully in life, a rude person, a thief, an unfair boss or leader. You probably can think back to times when something like this personally affected you in a negative way. Right? This stirs up feelings of anger, resentment maybe even hopelessness- even if you have forgiven this person. Now, consider what happens when you choose to focus more on the driving factors of why these people are the way they are. Maybe the bully had a lack of attention, maybe the rude person has a misunderstanding of people or themselves leading them to be calloused. Perhaps the thief is living in deep poverty. Maybe the unfair leader is struggling with insecurity. Compassion is rooted in the practice of looking behind the scenes. People are just missing something in their life, maybe it is the love of Jesus in their life. The principle of John 15:5 is at work here. We must forgive in order to truly serve God and produce fruit. We are spinning our wheels if we try to do it any other way. There is a relief in choosing to forgive despite how we may feel.

We become compassionate toward others, (tenderhearted) Vs. 32b

Being tenderhearted and compassionate will move us to action toward others. Did you know that Jesus called us to act more than anything else? It is not enough to forgive; we must put the forgiveness into motion. James 2:14 says ā€œWhat good is it if you say you have faith but don’t show it by your actions?ā€ We become vessels fit to be used by God at the moment we choose to forgive others and allow that to make us compassionate toward others. Jesus wants it no other way. Our Christian life will be dreadful if we can't grasp this principle of forgiveness. When we do it is natural to become tender hearted and compassionate. The world will want nothing to do with us if we are miserable and judgmental in every situation in life. We will never fulfill God’s purpose fully in our life if we can’t put things behind us. Look through scriptures, Jesus forgave on a regular basis. Look at the apostle Paul who persecuted Christians, God used him. King David, King Saul, the woman at the well, Peter denied Christ, the disciples had a lack of faith, I could go on and on, what was the difference in these people living a meaningful life? It was the act and action of forgiveness. It is dynamic on both sides.

We allow forgiveness to be our purpose. Vs 32c

It says forgiving one another, just as God in Christ forgave us. It was in his purpose. Allow it to be a part of your life. Everything in life requires a sacrifice. Sometimes it is hard to forgive but we need to do it to be healthy. I look at it this way, what if Christ chose not to forgive us out of our sin? Where would we be? Make it your mission to forgive and move on and see how happy you will be. What does the Bible say,

Matthew 22:37-40 (MEV)

37 Jesus said to him, ā€œ ā€˜You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ā€˜You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.ā€

Pretty much sums it up. If we love our neighbor as ourself, how can we not forgive?

Let’s get personal for just a moment. Just like everyone else, I feel like I’ve been wronged many times. I can remember being what we call ā€œstabbed in the backā€, numerous times. Often times by people in ministry, or even the ministry itself. Not going to lie, At the time I thought I handled it right. I moved on but never forgave. So, what happened, I became bitter, I became hard hearted, eventually wanted nothing to do with church, before you know it 8 years go by. God had to get ahold of me. We cannot serve him with bitterness and unforgiveness in our heart. Did you know it only affects you? Let go of the bitterness, forgive and let God use you in a mighty way. He wants you to be fully devoted to him and we cannot if we are harboring unforgiveness in our hearts.

So, to sum it up, what happens when a Christian forgives? We have a change in perception, we become compassionate toward others, and we allow forgiveness to become our purpose.

This is one of the longer ones in a while. PLEASE, like and share this everywhere. We all need to hear this and apply it to our life. Forgiveness does not make you weak, it makes you stronger than ever. Please comment below if you read through and enjoyed. Share your stories of forgiveness. My prayer through Strong Tower is that we can study the Word of God together in a very practical way.

It's all about FOCUS!!!! Part III

Philippians 4:8 (MEV)

8 Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honest, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue, and if there is any praise, think on these things.

How do we truly FOCUS in this life. It actually is very simple. Here is the formula.

F....fixate our minds on the things of God.

O ...open our eyes fully to a lost world.

C....create an atmosphere of forgiveness toward others.

U.... understand that God is fully in control of every situation.

S....set out every day to further God's plan for your life.

Three weeks ago we began discussing this topic. With so much going on in today's society, it easy easy to lose sight and focus on God and the things of God. It is imperative that we not do that. God is the author and finisher of our faith. The beginning and the end. If we are honest with ourself, we will admit that we have lost focus on the things of God a time or two, maybe even right now. We see what's going on and we question God's motive, maybe we blame this all on him. We just lose our way. Well how do we not lose focus. How do we FOCUS. Two weeks ago, I gave a simple formula to that. This week, we will cover the "O". Open our eyes fully to a lost world.

Don't misunderstand me when I'm talking about a lost world. I'm talking about the majority of the world not having a relationship with Jesus Christ. We've kicked Jesus out of all aspects of life then wonder why the world is the way it is. We are by nature sinners and in need of a savior. It is our responsibility as Christians to bring Christ to the world, not the other way around. So how do we open our eyes to a lost world. Let's get very easy and practical for awhile and look at this from a different perspective.

1. By realizing that despite our sins, Christ still loves us.

Ephesians 2:1-8 MEV

And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, 2 in which you formerly walked according to the age of this world and according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, 3 among them we all also once lived in the lusts of our flesh, doing the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and we were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest. 4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in sins, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 6 and He raised us up and seated us together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the coming ages He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not of yourselves. It is the gift of God.

I realize that this is alot of verses but what can amazing thing, verse 5 says that even when we were dead in our sins, meaning that we had no chance of heaven because of our sin, that we were made alive by Christ. It says in verse 8 that by his grace we are saved. I cannot get over this. We were sinners, far from God, mocking God, pushing God away but yet He still loves us. Why can't we be this way. To many times we write people off. To many times we cast people out of our life because of how they treat us. Guess what, they act like that because humans are naturally wired this way. If it wasn't for Jesus and his grace and mercy we all would be this way. Jesus chose to live inspite if our sins and transgressions. We can't lose focus of this vital point.

2. By realizing that the world is lost because of sin.

Romans 5:12 (MEV)

12 Therefore as sin came into the world through one man and death through sin, so death has spread to all men, because all have sinned.

If we can get this point, it would transform our life. When Adam and Eve fell into sin in the garden, it spread to all mankind. Sin condems us, sin buries us, sin consumes us. The Bible also says that all have sinned and fallen short of God's glory. We need to open our eyes to this fact. Sin is here, sin is not going anywhere. Christ commands us to take the good news of Jesus to the world and not wait for them to come to us. Church is a comfortable place to be and worship but we are the church. Christ will return soon. What are we doing to get the gospel to this sinful world. Open our eyes church, people are dying with out Christ because we are not sharing Christ. What can we do even this week to share Jesus. It can be as simple as an act of kindness.

3. By realizing that God has an answer for a lost world.

Luke 19:10 (MEV)

10 For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.ā€

John 3:16 (ESV)

16 ā€œFor God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

The answer for a lost world is love and sacrifice. Luke says that the son of man came to seek and save the list. He saves the lost through his sacrificial death on the cross. He bridged the gap between God and man. Sin keeps us from God but Jesus paid the price for our sin. That's the message that we take to the world. God loves us so much that he gave his ONLY son for us. I cannot even fathom that kind of love. God has it for us.

So in short, we cannot lose FOCUS in this life. There is so much at stake if we do. No matter what is being thrown at us in 2020, Don't worry about what the media is saying, turn your mind away from all the hatred. Satan is loving what is going on right now. FOCUS on the things of God. I want to leave you with this. The age old question is this. WWJD, what would Jesus do?, The answer is simple, above all; HWLF, He would LOVE first. That's first in every thing. God's love is above all. We need to practice that in our lives in every situation.

Go out this week, don't lose FOCUS and show the love of God to a lost world.

If you read this to the end and enjoyed it, please comment below and if you would, please like and share to your page. Love you all and have a wonderful week.

It's all about FOCUS!!!! Continued....

Last week we began discussing this topic. Well, how do we not lose focus? How do we FOCUS? Last week I gave a simple formula to that. This week, we will cover the "F".

To "F"= fixate our minds on the things of God. If we do this we cannot lose focus on God or his direction for our life. Three things happen when we fixate our minds on the things of God. Look at these next few verses.

Isaiah 26:3 (MEV)
You will keep him in perfect peace,
whose mind is stayed on You,
because he trusts in You.

1. We learn to trust God more.

Not only does it say when our mind is stayed on Him, we have perfect peace( extra nugget there), but it says that we trust in him. So many times we find it easy to trust God with the little things in life, but don't trust him with the bigger things because we want to handle it in our own. I'm here to say, God wants it all. It's not that he is jealous but he want 100% of us. So, in short, when we fixate our minds on the things of God, we learn to trust him more, in every situation of life.

Psalm 119:2 (MEV)
Blessed are those who keep His testimonies,
and who seek Him with all their heart.

2. We have the blessings of God on our life.

I love that word "and" in there. We are blessed if we keep his words and those of us who seek God with our hearts. I don't know about you but I NEED and DESIRE the blessings of God on my life. Another place in scripture it says, with my whole heart gave I sought you, let me not stray from your commandments. In the first verse, that extra nugget I told you about; that when we focus on him that he keeps us in perfect peace. We all need a little peace right now. Only God can give true and lasting peace. We just have have to allow him to.

1 Corinthians 10:31 (MEV)
Therefore, whether you eat, or drink, or whatever you do, do it all to the glory of God.

3. We seek to give God glory in every situation.

Pretty simple here. We we fixate our minds on the things of God. We seek to do everything in life to glory God. I mean everything. I think it's amazing that God inspired this verse. Really think about it for a second. It doesn't matter if we are eating or drinking, or anything else, do it for God's glory. Who or what are we living for. Is it God or man. The answer should be God. If we are fixating our minds on God, giving him praise and glory should come natural.

Three very simple things. It's easy to lose FOCUS and perspective. I'm in this boat right now. The first step in focus is to "F" fixate our minds on the things of God. When we do this, our whole world opens up. We learn to trust God more, we have God's blessings on our life and we seek to praise God in every situation in life. Through all of this, and through this life, God is the one to provide perfect peace. Please allow Him to do that for you.

Let's get personal for a second. Sometimes we think that because we attend church and serve in ministries at church, then we are fine and we are good. I served in a ministry, years ago, where I taught in the school, taught a life group class, sang in choir, worked the sound room.. etc. Through all the service work I lost perspective and FOCUS on what I was doing it all for. Now there is nothing wrong with any of the above, but remember this. Who are we serving and what are we doing it for. Never lose FOCUS on God, and keep him in the forefront of all your service. I've said it before, church is great, but God commands us to go out and reach people where our influence is. You are the only "church" some people will ever see. So go live your FAITH out loud where you are. Introduce them to Jesus and never lose FOCUS.
