Wintergarden Presbyterian Church

Wintergarden Presbyterian Church The Wintergarden faith community is a delightful group of people who are authentic and real, located in the Murdock area of Port Charlotte, FL.

Our mission is to "feed people physically, spiritually, mentally, and emotionally in our community." The people of Wintergarden make up a delightful congregation who are loving, caring, and devoted people. Every week, we gather for Bible study, worship, and fellowship. In addition, we are excited about growing individually in our faith, growing as a faith community, and living out our faith in our community.

The fight for LGBTQIA+ inclusion in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) did not happen overnight. It grew from decades of courage, faithful witness, and voices willing to ask difficult questions.

In this Ministry in Motion video feature, we explore the long journey toward inclusion through the actions of the General Assembly and the stories of LGBTQIA+ Presbyterians and their allies who helped move the church forward.

The first video in this series begins with a moment that changed everything: when David Sindt stood at the 1974 General Assembly in Louisville holding a simple sign that asked, “Is anyone else out there gay?”

Ministry in Motion exists to lift up stories like this — moments of faith, courage, and transformation happening across the church. Watch the first video in the three-part "Journey to Inclusion" series below.

Over the last 6 years we’ve been through COVID-19, then Ian, followed by mission teams. Then there was Idalia, Helene, and Milton. Costs skyrocketed. Through it all, food insecurity continued to increase, putting more and more pressure on our community and our church. So many were struggling. We all feels the eadaches, pain, disillusionment, exhaustion, and unknowing... We still feel the impact. On Sunday Pastor Devon spoke with passion about the last 6 years and explained that this summer we are going to do some visioning, dreaming, and planning for the future, beginning with a journey through the book of Nehemiah.

Nehemiah dares us to prayer and action, risk-taking, visioning, and so much more. Nehemiah’s heartbreak led him to prayer and action on behalf of the people. Is our heartbreak over all that is broken enough for us to do the same? Each week there will be a time of reflection and response as we explore our journey of faith and where God is leading us. How is God calling us to rebuild the city, church, and our call?

This week’s questions:

Where are our own walls broken at Wintergarden?
And what is the invitation in that brokenness?
