Happy Father’s Day
Father’s “Set the Tone"

Joshua 24:15-16

It is a privilege to honor men period, and especially those who are fathers. Today we celebrate the men who have been called, chosen, and commissioned by God for one of the greatest assignments on earth; fatherhood! Can we give God praise for our fathers today? Fathers are often misunderstood, mislabeled, ridiculed and given a bad rap, but today, we value and celebrate you. A father does not just fill space in a home; he sets the atmosphere, the direction, and the spiritual tone for everyone under his roof. Regardless to where you are or what season you are in with your family; I want to challenge and encourage fathers, father figures and men in general to set the tone in your family. I stand today to challenge fathers, men, and believers to live intentionally so their faith, character, and choices shape the next generation. Every environment has a tone. A workplace has a tone. A classroom has a tone. A church has a tone and every home has a tone. The tone of a home is not determined by its size, income, location, or possessions. It is determined by the attitudes, values, and behaviors that are consistently displayed within it. While every family member contributes to the atmosphere, fathers often have a unique influence on the emotional and spiritual climate of the home. Father’s, “Set the Tone.”

WHO SAID ~ QUOTES!
1. “Don’t bite off more than you can chew.”
2. “Relax and enjoy the crisis.”
3. “Always try to do what’s right.”
4. “Boy, you gotta use yo head for something more than a hat rack.”
5. “Don’t take any wooden nickels.”
6. “It will come to you; you’ll figure it out” and, “never let them see you sweat.”
7. “Don’t let your mind take you where you don’t want to go.”
8. “If you set a good example, the less you gotta talk.”

FATHER’S ~ SET THE TONE!
1. Set the tone for faith – Joshua 24:15. [“But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”]
➢ Joshua was establishing the spiritual direction of his home. Children learn what matters most by watching what matters most to their father.
2. Set the tone by shaping the next generation – Psalm 78:4-7.
3. Set the tone by being present and engaged – Proverbs 22:6. Your presence matters more than your perfection. Being present communicates: it says to your children that they matter, they are worth your attention and that you are interested in their life. Children often spell love T-I-M-E.
➢ Training takes time – Proverbs 22:6.
4. Set the tone through your example – 1 Timothy 4:12, Titus 2:6-7, 1 Peter 2:12. The greatest lessons are often caught rather than taught! When a father demonstrates integrity, he teaches integrity. When he demonstrates kindness, he teaches kindness. When he demonstrates forgiveness, he teaches forgiveness. Your children are listening to your words, but they are learning from your tone. They notice whether your life matches your message.
➢ Be an example – 1 Timothy 4:12. [Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the…

A CHARGE TO FATHERS!
1. Set the tone by: standing up, standing in the gap, stepping up, and staying consistent. Love your family fiercely. Lead your family faithfully!
2. Speak life into your children daily. Cover your family in prayer. Model what godliness looks like.
3. Be the father who: Shows up when it’s inconvenient and serves when it’s difficult.

A Challenge to Children
If your father is still living; Each day this week: Identify one practical thing you can do for your father to let him know that you love him! Pray for him and send him a text and tell him one specific thing you appreciate about him, and ask him one meaningful question about life or family! Do this while you can!

Come to Jesus:
Come to Jesus by hearing that He died for your sins, and through faith, repentance, confession, and baptism receive the remission of your sins (Acts 2:37-38; 47).
