Paul describes a “thorn in the flesh,” a painful struggle that he asked God to remove. Instead of removing it, God responded with a promise: “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” (2 Corinthians 12:9)
Paul never tells us exactly what the thorn was, allowing believers in every generation to relate their own struggles to this passage. The focus of the text is not the thorn itself, but the grace of God that sustains us in the middle of weakness.
Suffering can tempt us to believe God has abandoned us, that we are under a curse, or that our hope should be placed in circumstances and outcomes. But Scripture reminds us that in Christ there is no condemnation, the curse has been carried by Jesus, and our hope rests in God’s promises rather than human probabilities.
Suffering also brings clarity. It reminds us that life is temporary and eternity is real, helping us refocus on what truly matters - knowing and trusting Christ.
When God removes the thorn, we praise Him. But when the thorn remains, He gives something just as certain: His sustaining grace. When the thorn won’t leave… grace doesn’t leave either.

In 1912, the Titanic set sail as the most advanced ship in the world. Many believed it was unsinkable, a monument to human confidence and engineering. Yet one collision with an iceberg proved otherwise. Historians now say the greatest flaw was not the iceberg, but the overconfidence of those who believed they had mastered the ocean. Life often reminds us of the same truth. Sometimes we quietly live as though we are in control of our lives, building our plans, reputations, and security while believing we are capable of steering everything ourselves. Scripture gives us a powerful picture of this struggle through three kings in 1 and 2 Samuel: Saul, David, and Absalom. Saul represents the fearful and controlling heart - his identity became tied to his position, and when it was threatened, fear turned to jealousy, control, and anger. Absalom represents the prideful and self-promoting heart - he gained influence through charm and manipulation, stealing the hearts of the people in an attempt to secure power for himself. David, though imperfect, shows a different path. He refused to force God’s promises, waited for the Lord’s timing, and later in life even surrendered the throne to God’s will when faced with rebellion. The lesson is that control often grows from fear, pride, or self-preservation, but true peace comes when we trust God rather than trying to rule our own lives. Ultimately, none of these kings were the final answer. Their stories point us to the true King - Jesus - who did not grasp for power but surrendered Himself in love, even praying for those who harmed Him. Every heart wants a throne, but peace begins when we step off that throne and trust the One who is wise enough to rule and loving enough to care for us - King Jesus.

In this message, we were reminded that everything begins with who God is. At Mount Sinai, the mountain shook because God came down, and the people trembled when they encountered His holiness. Holiness means that God is utterly unique - set apart, without equal, eternal and unchanging. When Isaiah saw the Lord high and lifted up and heard the angels cry, “Holy, holy, holy,” he immediately saw his own unworthiness and cried, “Woe is me.” True holiness reveals both who God is and who we are.
Yet the message does not end with trembling - it moves to redemption. The coal from the altar that cleansed Isaiah pointed forward to the greater altar at Calvary. The cross was not God lowering His holiness or overlooking sin; it was God satisfying His holiness so He could show holy mercy. Jesus absorbed the judgment sin required and declared, “It is finished.” Justice was satisfied, wrath was absorbed, and mercy was released. Because holiness was satisfied in Christ, we no longer stand at a distance like Israel at Sinai - we are invited to come boldly into fellowship with Him.
Through faith in Christ, we are called a “holy nation,” not because we achieved holiness, but because we are united to the Holy One. We do not strive to become holy in our own strength; we live from the holiness He has given us. The same God who made mountains tremble has made a way for sinners to be forgiven and welcomed into His presence.
The question that remains is this: What do we know of the holiness of God? Do we know enough to tremble … and enough to trust?

This message explores a difficult but important question: “Was Judas beyond grace?” Pastor Blake examines what Scripture clearly shows - that Judas experienced deep remorse, ran to the religious system for help, and was told, “What is that to us? You must see to that” He walked with Jesus for three years, yet when he failed, he did not believe grace was still available to him.
The tragedy of Judas may not be that grace was unavailable … but that he believed it was. This sermon reminds us: that religion without grace crushes the soul, despair is more dangerous than failure, and that grace is not small.
No one has outrun the mercy of God. If you have breath, there is grace. If you have failure, there is forgiveness. If you have regret, there is redemption.
The invitation is simple: Do not run to religion - run to Jesus.
