Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church

Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church Mt. Zion exists to obey, revere, imitate, and proclaim Jesus Christ. We're a family of believers that desires to show affection & love for others.

We don't care how you're dressed, how many tattoos you have, what your past is, or how much money you make. We're a church full of broken, imperfect people with every kind of story imaginable, and we're saving a seat for you! And… your kids will love it too! So, come see us.

Today I mentioned SOAP.
S cripture
O bservation
A pplication
P rayer

It works like this:

Scripture--Don't choose a passage at random. Choose a book and read it by paragraphs or chapters

Observation--What does the passage say? Is there anything I don't understand? What does it say about the character or person of God/Jesus/the Holy Spirit? What does it say about people/me? Observe and take notes.

Application--How do I need to apply these verses? Is there something for which to thank or praise God? Is there a sin to avoid or confess? Is there a promise to claim? According to the passage, how can I become a better follower of Christ? Is there a verse I should memorize?

Prayer--Praise, Repent, Ask, Yield

So this week I would like for us to start SOAPing in the book of James. There are 5 chapter, one chapter for Monday-Friday.

I would love to here some conversation or thoughts about the chapter we read each day.

The Greatest Valentine ever given

John 15:13, Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends

John 19:30, So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.

May this be our goal this week.
Colossians 3:1-3
If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. 2 Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. 3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

What a wonderful night of fellowship! We enjoyed special music, a devotional about Thanksgiving, and then a chili fellowship dinner! The kids enjoyed a special treat when Mandy taught them how to pierce a ballon with skewers. Our hearts are full as we head into this special week.

Good afternoon
I was going to do a video this morning but technology and I are not getting along today. So after a 3 hour fight I am giving up and just going to type a post.

The Lord Stirred
Ezra 1:1-11
As I was reading this week this passage really stood out and caught my attention. It says in verse 1 that "the Lord stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, so that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and also put it in writing". What caught my attention was the "stirred up". This means that he was roused to action by the Sprit of the Lord. That action lead his to proclaim in writing "He has commanded me to build His a house at Jerusalem which is in Judah". The writer makes sure that we know and understand that this is a fulfillment of "the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah". One of the first thoughts came to mind was God can and will use anyone to fulfill His word. I kept reading and realized in verse 5 that "the heads of the fathers' houses of Judah and Benjamin, and the priest and Levites, with all whose spirits God had moved, arose to go up and build the house of the Lord". Now "moved " there in verse five is the same word "stirred" in verse one meaning "roused to action". Then I though it amazing how one person listening to the Spirit and being roused to action can affect and help rouse others to action. The King acted on the Spirit's leading and then the leaders of Israel acted as the Spirit lead them. So my question to our church today is: What is the Spirit rousing you to action to accomplish? How might that rousing affect others around you and lead them to action for the Lord.
Reading on in 6-11 we see that God provided everything that they needed to rebuild the temple. Many times we fail to take action because we feel that we don't have the means to accomplish the action God is leading us to but if God is leading (rousing to action) then He will provide the means. He will work in other people's hearts as well to help accomplish what He is leading.

What a fun night with our kids! We did “Resurrenction Eggs” Easter egg hunt style. Each team had to pick up an egg of their given color, read the clue, and then search the outside of the church for the item. If they didn’t know the answer, their clue listed the Bible verse to find what they were looking for. The double girl pink team won, but it was super close! They were worn out, but it was so much fun!!!

The kids have been continuing with a “Summer of Service” this year. It’s had to look a little different, but there is always a way to serve at your church if you just look!!
These kids did a great job weeding the landscape, picking up trash and trimming some shrubs.
