After sixteen chapters of theology, Paul doesn't end Romans with one more doctrinal climax. He ends with names. Because the gospel of Romans always produces a community. The gospel has names. And yours is on the list.

The man who carried Jesus' cross took the gospel home. 👇 Simon of Cyrene was a stranger from North Africa. Roman soldiers grabbed him out of the crowd and forced him to carry the cross for a condemned man he had never met. He carried it up the hill. He watched the man die. He went home.

Decades later, his son Rufus shows up as a named leader in the church at Rome. His widow becomes a second mother to the apostle Paul. The whole family is now in Christ. “Greet Rufus, chosen in the Lord.” - Romans 16:13
