Psalm 13
How long, O Lord?
Will you forget me for ever?
How long will you hide your face from me?
How long shall I have perplexity in my mind,
and grief in my heart, day after day?
How long shall my enemy triumph over me?
Look upon me and answer me, O Lord my God;
give light to my eyes, lest I sleep in death;
lest my enemy say, “I have prevailed over this one,”
and my foes rejoice that I have fallen.
But I put my trust in your mercy;
my heart is joyful because of your saving help.
I will sing to the Lord who has dealt with me richly;
I will praise the name of the Lord Most High.

The psalmist moves us from anguished “How long, O Lord?” to confident praise, reminding us that trust in God’s mercy can turn grief into song.
May we, built together on the foundation of the apostles and prophets with Christ as cornerstone, offer our lives as instruments of righteousness and welcome.

Gospel reading for this coming Sunday is Matthew 9:35-10:23: Jesus looks out at the harassed and helpless crowds with compassion, and sends his disciples out to do what he has done — proclaiming, healing, and giving freely what they have freely received. We are that church, called still to proclaim truth with boldness and minister justice with compassion, trusting the Spirit to speak through us.
