This wild man loves sitting in the window in his room!

The meeting went well today. We talked for two hours and they gave a lot of information and answered all the questions we had at the time. Thankfully there were no big negatives that we didn’t already know. The Intestinal Rehab team’s goal is to make his quality of life good enough on TPN that hopefully he’ll never need a transplant though. He gets his chest line for his TPN this Thursday and then he gets his GI tube and he gets his small intestines connected back to his large intestines (which means he loses his ostomy yay!) August 10. They also are hoping we won’t have to be here the full 6 months if he keeps doing as good gaining weight as he has been!!!! Once we get discharged we will have to travel to Columbus weekly and for any fever he would get in the future to rule out line infection. They did say that it isn’t always about length but also function so we need to be praying for not only growth but for what he does have to function as good as possible! They still say the goal is to have him on as little TPN a day as possible so when he’s older the goal would be 12 hours a day off TPN. But this time they added they want to get him to eat as much through his mouth as we can work his body up to which is crazy because at one point we didn’t think he’d ever eat at all! They also even said he could play soccer or baseball and things like that which is so exciting to know there are still things he’ll be able to participate in!! Overall he has a long long road ahead but it’s better than we first expected. We just have to keep his central line free of infection because that’s his lifeline. He will most likely always be TPN dependent for some period of every day but we never know what technology or medical things could happen in the future and we know we serve a miracle working God too! Thank you so much for all the continued prayers! Our lives are forever changed but we are so thankful to still have this little wild child!! 💕💕

BIG THINGS HAPPENING TODAY!!

We are learning that this whole process is a lot of trial and error and that every baby is different so they just have to find what works for him.

The Imodium is not slowing output in his ostomy so they are taking him off that. In its place they are going to try FOOD!! HE GETS TO EAT SOME FOOD!! They are going to give him a Sutton fist size amount of food and see if it slows down his output. We went from being told he’d never eat again at the very beginning to now we are trying FOOD!! Please please pray he does well with it so he can continue to eat food!!! This is so exciting for us!! This will not replace his need for TPN but at least will be something he can do that will make him feel “normal” if he can eat some food.

Another exciting development is they are trying a different lipid IV and he will get TWO hours unhooked time starting tomorrow!! This means he also gets to take a walk outside if we want for the first time in weeks!!! The lipids allow him to have more calories also so hopefully we can gain some weight now.

HUGE DAY! Thank you for all the prayers - they are working!! Pray these changes benefit him and we can continue in the right direction 🙏🏻

An update on Sutton. If you'd like to send a card to Sutton and his family, they are at Nationwide Children's Hosptial, unit H5A, room 11. You can also go to https://www.nationwidechildrens.org/greeting-card to send a card online for free. You can add pictures and personalize the cards online as well.

Just wanted to give a quick update. Sutton’s heart rate is finally doing better - thank you for all the prayers! His Triglycerides were high so his lipids had to be adjusted which adjusted his TPN so we are back on 24 hour TPN with no unhooked periods. Hopefully we will be back up to having some sort of break soon! Continued prayers needed and appreciated so much! ♥️

Most recent update on this strong little man! You and your family are in our prayers!

It’s been one week since we’ve seen his face look like this. One week since the beginning of this nightmare & Today I got to see that dimple and smile 😍😍

He had a pretty good night. The drs are all super impressed with how he looks compared to how he looked when he got here and how quickly he’s gotten to this point. Lots of people that saw him that first night when he was so critical have come by just to see him without the vent! We are still working on getting the secretions out of his lungs which is the main goal right now. He’s being weaned off his sedation and hardcore pain meds a little at a time where he was on them so long. We hope to lose those two IV’s today and then only be left with his Lipids and TPN which is what he will be on for life. The blood clot is shrinking enough that the swelling in his leg is going down.

It is very hard to see our sweet boy looking like this and playing and seeming “normal” and still remembering that he’s not “normal” and we still have a very long road ahead of us. Sometimes I let myself believe that when he gets discharged from the PICU the hard part is over and we can go back to regular life - however, unfortunately that just isn’t the case.

Continued prayers please for our little guy, Carson and Owen, and Jay and I. Thank you so much to everyone for all the prayers already. We feel them and Sutton wouldn’t look like this today without them. 🙏🏻
