The Anointing is meant to give one strength of faith when facing a serious or grave illness. Waiting to the last possible moment denies the sick person the graces needed to persevere in faith, hope and love and runs the very real possibility of a priest not being available. Father William O’Donnell will become the new Pastor at St John the Evangelist in Pocasset on June 24, 2026.
Father O’Donnell is the son of Patty and the late William O’Donnell, Jr. and has a younger brother and sister. He grew up as a member of Holy Trinity Parish in West Harwich, where he, at 13, met and became friends with then-Parochial Vicar Father Thomas Frechette. He attended Harwich High School, graduating in 1996. While in high school, he participated in an ECHO -Encountering Christ in Others- retreat and has been involved in the program on Cape Cod ever since.
He is a 2000 graduate of Stonehill College in Easton with a bachelor’s degree in marketing. After college he worked for some time including caring for his family’s A&W Root Beer restaurant business following the death of his father. He entered St. John’s Seminary in 2016 to study for the priesthood. As a deacon, he served at Holy Family Church in East Taunton. Father O’Donnell was ordained by Bishop Edgar da Cunha on June 4, 2022.
He most recently has been the Pastor of Saint Mary’s in South Dartmouth. Let us pray to God for a peaceful and easy transition for the parishioners of St. Mary’s and St. John's!

A special moment during a special Mass - the last Mass of Holy Week before the Triduum. Father Tom calls every one in attendance to the sanctuary from the Preparation of the Gifts through Communion. It has become a wonderful tradition here at St. John's! photo courtesy of the uber-talented Clem Walsh!

In the never-ending story of the Blizzard of 2026, we will once again be closed tomorrow (Thursday 2/26/2026) for church and the welcome center. Sadly this also affects our Stations of the Cross, because many of the people that would have come to do it are still snowed in/without power. Please pray in gratitude and for safety for the line workers, the DPW and independent plow drivers and our first responders. Stay safe!!!

The church and welcome center will be closed once again on Wednesday, February 25. We hope to open again on Thursday.
