When the bell rang for the final time before summer break this week at Sacred Heart School in Boone, Emmetsburg Catholic and Pocahontas Catholic – the schools’ principals were not only wrapping up another school year but their long-time careers in Catholic education.

Mary Cae Zdrazil-Scott, age 76, of Pocahontas, passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at the Pocahontas Community Hospital in Pocahontas, Iowa. Mary Cae Zdrazil was born on December 25, 1949, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She was the daughter of James and Marcella Hronek Zdrazil and was raised in Pocahontas.
