Moses had asked to see the glory of God… And when God passed by to show him, what did he lead with?
It wasn't his power, or his majesty, or his wisdom. God led with his mercy.

Compassionate… Gracious… Slow to anger… Abounding in love… Forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin... Of all the things he could have picked to introduce himself with, these are the ones he chose!
And he says this to the man leading a people who had just melted down their jewelry to make a golden calf and bow to it. Moses says it himself: these are a stiff-necked people. And then he asks God to forgive our wickedness and our sin. Moses puts himself right in the pile with them.

But God already knew what kind of people they all were… yet he named himself gracious anyway.

The God who spoke those words has not changed one bit. The One in whose hands we place our trust, our lives, our eternal well-being, is the LORD, abounding in love and faithfulness.

God tells Solomon to ask for literally anything. A young king with a brand new crown could have asked for a long life, or bottomless money, or even the heads of his enemies on a platter. But instead, Solomon asks for a listening heart.

That choice tells you what he valued the most. He didn't want more for himself… He wanted to be the kind of man who could tell right from wrong and lead God's people well. He wanted his character shaped by God before his kingdom was expanded.

What would we have asked for? Most of the things we would reach for are things we would eventually have to let go of... Godly wisdom isn't like that. A heart that knows God and loves what he loves is the one form of wealth that doesn't fade away. It leads to an even greater treasure…. Heaven's gates.

We're all tired, and we keep chasing rest in things that never quite deliver. Jesus offers the real thing, not by removing every burden, but by getting in the yoke and pulling beside us, so we never carry it alone.

We spend a lot of energy hoping the world will like us. We soften our words, blend in, hope our faith goes unnoticed so we can avoid the awkward looks and hard conversations. And underneath it is a quiet assumption: that if we just do this right, the world will accept us.

Jesus gently corrects that. He reminds us we're not above our teacher. They called Jesus, the sinless Son of God, perfect in every word and deed, the prince of demons. If the world treated Jesus that way, why would we expect to be treated better as those who follow him?

That sounds discouraging at first. But look closer at what he calls us: those of his household. The rejection isn't a sign something has gone wrong. It's a sign you belong to Jesus. To share in Christ's mistreatment is to share in Christ's family. The same world that hated him hates you for the same reason, because you're his.

When the cost of following Jesus comes, don't read it as failure. Read it as a strange kind of confirmation. You're being treated like your Master. And being like him, marked as his own, is more than enough.
