Fourth Baptist Church Plymouth, MN Fourth Baptist Church is an Independent, Fundamental, Baptist church located in Plymouth, Minnesota. By 1954, attendance averaged over 700 for Sunday services.

History

Fourth Baptist Church began as a mission Sunday School of the First Baptist Church of Minneapolis. At that time, the congregation that would become the Fourth Baptist Church met in members' homes until they grew large enough for their own building. Jewett Chapel, formerly on the corner of 11th Avenue North and Lyndale Avenue, housed the church until 1885, when they built a new sanctuary a

t 18th Avenue North and Dupont Avenue. The church continued to grow and, in 1920, they built a new building on the corner of Fremont Avenue North and 21st Avenue. In 1974, a 2,000-seat auditorium was added adjacent to the original auditorium on Fremont Avenue North. In 1998, the congregation voted to relocate the church to the suburbs of Plymouth. A new ministry, Family Baptist Church, was planted at 21st and Girard Avenues. God has blessed Fourth Baptist Church by providing great Bible teachers to lead this ministry through the last 60 years. From 1940 to 1982, Dr. Richard V. Clearwaters pastored the church and oversaw the establishment of Fourth Baptist Christian School, Central Baptist Theological Seminary, and WCTS radio. Dr. Ernest Pickering provided a strong pulpit ministry from 1988-1993. Dr. Doug McLachlan pastored the church on two different occasions -- 1982-1987 and 1994-2007 -- and he superintended the relocation of the church from Minneapolis to Plymouth, and the planting of two new churches: Family Baptist Church in North Minneapolis and Bible Baptist Church in Elk River. Dr. Matt Morrell became the Senior Pastor in 2008, signaling a new and exciting chapter in the story of Fourth Baptist Church.

We look forward to gathering as a church family this coming Sunday morning, August 30, at 10:30am for worship and missionary fellowship! We are pleased to welcome our supported missionary to Spain, Seth Grotzke, who will bring a message from Psalm 123 titled "Look Up!"

Spain Ministry Report: Join us back in the sanctuary at 6:00pm as Seth & Crystal Grotzke share an update on the work God is doing through their ministry in Spain.

Summer Shepherding Series (Week 2): Meet at 9:15am in the auditorium for our combined adult Sunday School session as Dr. Jeff Newman continues our series on "The Heart and Anger".

Awana & 4G Workers Lunch: All workers for our children's clubs are invited to a preparation lunch this Sunday at 12:00pm following morning worship.

Communion Next Sunday: Please note that we will observe the Lord's Table together during the evening service next Sunday, September 6, at 6:00pm.

Fall Ministries Kickoff: Wednesday night Equip Classes, Youth Group, and Children’s Choirs resume on September 9 at 7:00pm, with Sunday Awana/4G Clubs and Membership Class starting on September 13. Be sure to register online or in the lobby!

As we continue our summer series, The Names of God, we come to the name Jehovah Tsidkenu, meaning “The Lord Our Righteousness.”

Jeremiah spoke these words during a dark period in Judah’s history. The nation had been marked by unrighteous rulers, sin, and coming judgment. Yet in the middle of that bleak setting, God promised that a righteous King would come from the line of David, a “Branch of righteousness” who would reign with perfect justice.

Jehovah Tsidkenu reminds us first that God Himself is righteous. Even when life seems unjust, when circumstances appear unfair, or when the world around us seems to be moving in the wrong direction, God’s character does not change. He remains perfectly righteous and just.

But this name also points us to our greatest need. Scripture declares that there is none righteous, not even one. We cannot earn a right standing before God through our own goodness, devotion, or obedience. Our righteousness must come from another.

That righteousness is found in Jesus Christ. The righteous One took the place of the unrighteous so that those who trust in Him might receive a righteousness that is not their own. Christ is our righteous substitute, our only refuge, and our only hope before a holy God.

“Now this is His name by which He will be called: THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.”
