Dayro d'Holy Martyrs - Syriac Orthodox

Dayro d'Holy Martyrs - Syriac Orthodox Syriac Orthodox Monastery A place of prayer and worship. A place of service. A place of learning. A place of hospitality. We pray a lot here. We feed folks! Hungry?

A place to meet God, His angels, and Saints. But what we do is simple. "The martyrs will come, bearing their afflictions, and the righteous will come, bearing their virtues." Our beloved children heard and responded to this invitation today. May we all follow them. We are a Monastic Community and intentional Orthodox Christian community who live according to the Gospel located in Plymouth, Indiana

Serving God by Serving the Poor and Poorest of the Poor. the disenfranchised and marginalized, We are part of the Syriac Orthodox Church. We strive for a balance of communal and private prayer, work, and leisure in our lives. Through our diverse ministries, we are committed to helping create a more just and compassionate world. Christ tells us “Whatsoever you do to the least of my people, so you do unto me.” If we listen, we hear the call to be open to one another, to give what we have, and to welcome all guests as we would welcome Christ. We are a place of healing and nourishment, where folks respond to each other's human needs. It is the generosity of caring people that makes our work possible. Few Christian denominations can claim the antiquity of the Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch, whose foundations can be traced back to the very dawn of Christianity. The Church justifiably prides itself on being one of the earliest established apostolic churches. It was in Antioch, after all, that the followers of Jesus were called Christians as we are told in the New Testament, "The disciples were first called Christians in Antioch." (Acts 11:26). According to ecclesiastical tradition, the Church of Antioch is the second established church in Christendom after Jerusalem, and the prominence of its Apostolic See is well documented. In his Chronicon (I, 2), the church historian Eusebius of Caesarea tells us that Apostle St. Peter established a bishopric in Antioch and became its first bishop. He also tells us that St. Peter was succeeded by Evodius. In another historical work, Historia Ecclesiastica, Eusebius tells us that Ignatius the Illuminator, "a name of note to most men, [was] the second after Peter to the bishopric of Antioch" (III, 36). In the mid of the 5th century, the Bishop of Antioch, and his counterparts in Alexandria, Byzantium, and Rome, would be called patriarchs. The Syriac Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch used to be known by his own name; however, since 1293 the patriarchs of Antioch adopted the name, Ignatius, after the Illuminator. The See of Antioch continues to flourish till our day,

Our mission is very simple. We feed folks! The homeless and near-homeless, the disenfranchised and marginalized, and the poorest of the poor.

You can support the monastery and Orthodox Workers by donating blankets, gloves, sleeping bags, toiletries, hand warmers, and thermals, and dropping them off at the monastery on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday between 12 noon and 4 pm. If you need to contact the monastery, we may be able to pick them up from you.

We provide essentials like food, clothing, shoes, diapers, toiletries, and, many times, a nice hot meal. We help take some of the burden off so you can use your income to pay your utility bills, rent, food, or gas.

With monthly donations from caring supporters like you, we can do more good every day. We can help feed more folks every day. We can clothe more folks. We can visit more strangers. Become a recurring monthly donor and support the Monastery of the Holy Martyrs and Orthodox Workers. But one-time donations also bring the gift of warmth and hope. Just follow this link: https://givebutter.com/vfQazT and make a difference in someone's life. Give hope where there is none.

The greatest miracle is not raising the dead but feeding the hungry. We pray to end hunger, but we also feed the folks who are hungry. We are not out to feed the world or end hunger. Our goal: We want to feed one person, and if that is a child, even better.

The bread in your cupboard belongs to the hungry man; the coat hanging in your closet belongs to the man who needs it; the shoes rotting in your closet belong to the man who has no shoes; the money which you put into the bank belongs to the poor

My parents helped build the Monastery of the Holy Martyrs and Orthodox Workers—a ministry grounded in truth and strong Orthodox faith, serving all people, no matter who they are, where they’re from, or what they believe. Their faith was never exclusive, never conditional. They believed that every person who came to our door was sent by Christ Himself.

Today, they continue to guide me—to reach out more, to love more, to welcome everyone, and to never close the door to anyone in need.

Their Built and Trust Must Continue

Our monastery serves the disenfranchised and marginalized, the homeless and near homeless, the poorest of the poor. We reach out to the unseen, the unheard, and the unwanted—though as my parents often reminded me, none are unseen, unheard, or unwanted by Christ.

But today, our monastery itself is in need. Severe leaks in the monastery’s roof have made our great room unusable—the very room that once served the homeless as a day shelter and the elderly as a place of fellowship and warmth.

When I was ordained thirty years ago, my mother told me she had prayed since I was thirteen for me to become the priest that Christ wanted and needed. I have no doubt that her final prayer on Christmas morning was for that same purpose—and that now she is asking Christ to challenge me more deeply in His service.

The amount does not need to be large; however much you give, you will be helping change the lives of those the monastery serves. Remember the indow and her mite. Her small coin was far from small to her and to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

May God's blessings always be upon you and your family.

May their memories always be eternal!

A man walked into a church seeking God.
Before he could pray, people scolded him:

• “Don’t hold your hands like that.”
• “Don’t stand there.”
• “You’re dressed wrong.”
• “You’re crossing yourself incorrectly.”
• “Come back after you read a book on how to behave here.”

Wounded and ashamed, the man left—and wept.

Then he heard a voice from heaven:
“They won’t let you in?”
“No,” the man answered.
And God replied, “Do not cry. They haven’t let Me in for a long time either.”

For those who know the Orthodox faith, this truth is clear: every person is an icon of Christ.
How we treat our brother is how we treat Christ Himself.

Yet many complain about the homeless while stepping over them on the church steps—hoping to find Christ only in the chalice. But He was outside, waiting to be seen, touched, and loved.

The Monastery of the Holy Martyrs serves those very people: the homeless, the near‑homeless, the forgotten and unseen—the poorest of the poor.
We feed their bodies, and we feed their souls.

But we cannot do this alone.

Your prayers and your support allow this ministry to reveal the face of Christ to those who need Him most.

“Mommy, I’m hungry!”
Is there anything more heartbreaking than hearing those words as a mother tucks her child into bed?
Far too many mothers face this painful cry every night — and their tears tell a story no one should have to hear.

At the Monastery of the Holy Martyrs and Orthodox Worker Communities, we believe no child should go to bed hungry.

Our mission is clear and urgent: to feed those who hunger and care for those who are forgotten.

We serve the homeless and near-homeless, the disenfranchised and marginalized — families who live in drafty homes, in their cars, or on the edge of losing everything.
Many of these families include small children.
As food poverty grows, more mothers are forced to make heartbreaking choices about what — or whether — their families will eat.

But together, we can make a difference.
Your generosity can make sure no mother has to hear “Mommy, I’m hungry” again.

The Driving Force of This Mission is Prayer
At the Monastery of the Holy Martyrs and Orthodox Workers, we know and believe in the power of prayer. But prayer is not passive — it moves us to act.

You can pray to end hunger worldwide, but true prayer compels you to feed the hungry. And that’s exactly what we do here.

We feed people.

Saint Basil the Great taught us long ago:

“The bread in your cupboard belongs to the hungry man; the coat hanging in your closet belongs to the man who needs it; the shoes rotting in your closet belong to the man who has no shoes; the money you put into the bank belongs to the poor. You do wrong to everyone you could help but fail to help.”
— St. Basil the Great, 4th Century AD

We serve the homeless and near-homeless, the disenfranchised and the forgotten—those unseen, unheard, and unwanted.
But Christ sees them. He hears them. And He guides them to our door, where they are met with love and a warm meal.

The greatest miracle is not raising the dead — it is feeding the hungry.

We pray for an end to hunger, and we act on that prayer every single day. We’re not trying to feed the entire world — we’re simply trying to feed one person.
And if that one person is a child, it’s an even greater blessing.

Your prayers sustain this mission.
But your support feeds the hungry.

A Call to Compassion: Why Your Donation Matters to the Moastery of the Holy Martyrs' Homeless Ministry

Every day, countless men, women, and children in our community wake up without a home, without certainty, and too often, without hope. It’s easy to walk past them — to think that someone else will help, that the problem is too large to solve. But behind every face is a story, and behind every story is a heart that longs to be seen, valued, and loved. Our homeless ministry exists to meet that need — to offer not just food and shelter, but dignity, compassion, and the hope of a new beginning. And that’s where you come in.

Homelessness is more than the absence of a roof; it is the absence of security, stability, and often family. In our city alone, hundreds struggle daily to find their next meal or a safe place to sleep. Many are veterans, single parents, or individuals who fell on hard times due to health crises or job loss. Statistics can never fully capture the humanity of this crisis — but your compassion can. Every contribution to our ministry directly touches the lives of those forgotten by society.

Our ministry works tirelessly to meet both physical and spiritual needs. Through meals, warm clothing, hygiene supplies, and more, we serve as a lifeline for people in desperate need. But material support is only the beginning. We also provide counseling, prayer, job assistance, and community — the tools that help individuals rediscover their self-worth and rebuild their lives. Every dollar you give fuels this mission of transformation.

The Power of Your Gift
Many people hesitate to donate because they believe their gift might be too small to matter — but every single act of generosity counts. A $10 donation can provide five hot meals; $50 can supply blankets and hygiene kits. When you give, you’re not just funding a program — you’re extending a hand of hope. You’re saying, “You’re not forgotten.” And that message changes lives. Just follow this link:

Your gift will bring hope to the homeless and near-homeless,, hr disenfrzed, and unseen, unheard, and unwanted. Hope -- Brigins' knowledge that someone cares what happens to them.

We all have the power to make a difference. Imagine if each person reading this gave just a little — together, we could ensure that no one in our community goes hungry or faces the cold alone. Compassion is love in action, and your donation is a tangible expression of that love. Join us in this mission of mercy today. Because when we stand together, hope multiplies — and lives are changed forever.

What do I tell them? I discovered this morning that help did not arrive last night, so today I must tell some, "Sorry, we can not help.'
I hate having to do that.

The monastery needs your help, needs it badly, and needs it right now. We are short about $242 to help those we serve. Can you be an angel and help?

The blood of martyrs is the seeds of the church!

The Syriac Orthodox Monastery of the Holy Martyrs and Orthodox Worker Communities welcome all and offer hospitality, healing, learning, and, most importantly, hope. Hope in solidarity with the poor and the homeless, the disenfranchised and forgotten, those never heard, seen, or even wanted. Serving God by serving the poor and the poorest of the poor, the disenfranchised and marginalized.

The Gospel Christ inspires us and teaches us, "Whatever you do to the least of my people, do you do unto me." If we listen, we hear the call to be open to one another, to give what we have, and to welcome all guests as we would welcome Christ Himself. The monastery is a place of healing, nourishment, learning, and service, where folks respond to each other's needs.

All are welcome to come and taste and see the Orthodox world through the tangible gifts, grace-filled moments, and love of each other. We carry on under the flag of openness to all as we labor under the Christian negotiable stature of unconditional love in service to all —seeing Christ in every face.

This is only possible because of your unceasing prayers and continued support. Please keep all in your prayers and consider even a small donation. https://givebutter.com/NmXMJa

Your prayers and donation will give hope to many who have no hope and do not think others care about what happens to them.
