Today's Gospel has a strong connection to a passage we heard proclaimed during Lent: the story of Jesus and the Samaritan woman. At the conclusion of that passage, the woman runs back to town to tell everyone about what Jesus has told her. As the townspeople begin to make their way out to the well to see Jesus, he tells the Twelve to "lift up [their] eyes, and see the fields are white for harvest." What were they looking at? The white head coverings and clothing of the Samaritans.

It's a good reminder that often, the people we are supposed to speak the Word to are RIGHT in front of us.

Today, let's ask the Lord for the strength to proclaim his Word to our neighbors here within the boundaries of Mary, Queen of Martyrs Parish.

Although St. Anthony is probably best known for helping us find lost things, during his earthly life he had a deep prayer life.

He teaches us that we can all have a relationship with God, if we simply make room for daily, quiet payer time.

Jewish-American legend Maurice Sendak was born on this day in 1928. Though he lived in America, he was deeply affected by the deaths of numerous family members during the Holocaust. His scary, haunting images result from this connection.

He's most famous for "Where the Wild Things Are," one of the most popular children's books of all time

Mary Queen of Martyrs family, did you know St. Ephrem is a Doctor of the Church, and yet he was never more than a simple deacon? He is called the "Harp of the Holy Spirit" because of his incredible preaching and beautiful hymns.

Who is your best friend? Aristotle notes that there are three types of friends: those of utility, pleasure, and virtue. In the Christian understanding, truly virtuous friendship continues into heaven because the two people have spurred each other on to holiness. Learn more about virtuous friends here:
