What a gift to celebrate God's calling of ordained ministry for six new AFLC pastors last night. May we continue to cover them in prayer as they step into this new vocation of service to their congregations, and may we be faithful to pray for more pastors to shepherd God's people in the AFLC!

The AFLC Annual Conference will return in 2027 to the Warm Beach Conference Center (Stanwood, Washington). The Conference Committee prayerfully pursued a location to bring the AFLC national gathering, since next year's venue had not been secured at the end of the 2025 conference.

"We are grateful to find a beautiful setting in the Pacific Northwest, which has served us well in the past for our free, living, and Lutheran congregations to connect together," explained AFLC President Micah Hjermstad. The conference previously has been at Warm Beach multiple times (1986, 1996, 2006, and 2015), but it has been over a decade since the national fellowship has assembled there.

The Warm Beach Conference Center will enable the AFLC Annual Conference to include their sessions, meals, and lodging options on the grounds. The dates will be June 16-19, 2027. Arrangements will be released in early 2027. More information on the Association of Free Lutheran Congregations and AFLC Annual Conference can be found at https://www.aflc.org/conferences/.

"Pastor Nelson encouraged us to be praying for our neighbors and co-workers. My husband and I invited three sets of neighbors over for a meal a few days after the seminar ended!" –Margie Lee

"It’s woefully easy in the course of the endless demands of parish ministry, to be almost entirely insular, focused inward upon the needs of the existing congregation—caring for the sheep who already belong to the flock. So I found it gratifying to be challenged, in a warm, gracious, firm but gentle way, to look outward and be thinking and praying intentionally about how our congregation (and each of us as individuals and families) can be involved in the commission to reach people who are outside of the Kingdom of Grace, and who need the light of Christ and the liberation that He alone can provide." —Pastor Dana Coyle

"For many congregations, and Alsace Lutheran is a good example, strong evangelistic efforts were once not needed to get people in the pews. They opened the door and people came in. Because of that there was often little interest in evangelistic efforts. The AFLC and other Christian denominations must be retaught how to reach people in the 21st century with the pure proclamation of the gospel. We can’t disciple those we can’t reach and the two things must go together. The history of the AFLC teaches us what can happen in a season of refreshing." —Pastor Terry Culler

Testimonials like these from participants in AFLC Evangelism & Discipleship's workshops remind us why this ministry is important and fruitful in our association. To partner in AED's mission to encourage, equip, and assist the congregations and pastors of the AFLC in making and equipping disciples who make and equip disciples, you can donate on their website:

“That is why it is the body of Christ; the ascended Savior dwells in believers by a living faith which is produced by the Holy Spirit. He was dead and see, He is alive to all eternity. Thus it may also be said of everyone who in spirit and truth belongs to His body: this one was dead, and see, he lives. The life of Christ, which streams through the congregation by the Holy Spirit, is the resurrected life.”

Our second lecture series presenter at the Annual Conference this year will be Rev. Jon Langness.

Jon and his wife Hannah live in Rapid City, SD, with their four kids: Evan (11), Judith (8 ), Margie (6), and Agnes (3). For the last three years, Jon has been serving Shiloh Free Lutheran Church in Black Hawk, SD.

On Friday afternoon of the conference, Jon will be sharing on the congregation as the Bride and Body of Christ, and how this vision spurs us on and sustains the dream for free and living congregations. He's praying that we would begin to see our own congregations with the eyes of Christ, appreciating them as Christ's Bride and living as Christ's Body.

At our 2026 Annual Conference, Rev. Dr. Nathan Olson will be sharing with us the first lecture of a two-part series on Friday afternoon.

Nathan teaches New Testament and Systematic Theology at the AFLC Schools and has been there since 2021. Nathan, his wife Emily, and four kids live on a 5.5 acre hobby farm in Shakopee, MN.

This year, he's going to be lecturing on "Luther and Piety," and is praying for us to see God's heart for holiness and how our Lutheran heritage has championed that same calling as we live in love for God and for our neighbor.

Pastor Jason Holt, our presidential ministry associate, and his wife Jenn enjoyed visiting our AFLC congregation in San Juan, Puerto Rico this past week! We are grateful and encouraged to see how God has been at work through Resurrection Free Lutheran Church and Rev. Dr. Hector Hiraldo-Sosa. Join us in praying for God's continued blessing on this congregation as they dwell in Christ and share Him with those in their community.
