Dear Friends,
Hamas chose the date of October 7th, not because of it's significance on Gregorian calendar, but because it is Simchat Torah.
They knew this is the day we celebrate our Torah, our life, our history, and our Jewishness. And that is what they sought to destroy.
This year, as we approach this sacred day - the yahrtzeit of 1200 pure and holy innocent souls - the memories surge again. Those memories threaten to drown out the joy. And that is exactly what our enemy wants. To be sad and despondent is a victory to Hamas.
Dear friends, this Simchat Torah we must lift our feet and dance. We need to dance with stamina, power, and vigor – like no other Simchat Torah.
And yes, there are SO MANY REASONS TO REJOICE.
First and foremost. WE ARE JEWS and that’s what we do. In Egypt, Rome, and in Auschwitz – we danced. Just as soldiers go to war with a march and emerge victorious so do we lift ourselves up and proudly celebrate our Jewish identity.
Yes, we dance because of the RESILIENCE of our People – an eternal People - who always were and always will be. We rise like a lion and transform defeat into victory.
We dance awed by the BRAVERY our People have displayed ... all the heroes and soldiers we have read about during this past year who refused to stand idly; who heroically sacrificed their lives for their fellow Jew; demonstrating the pure and simple truth: “We are one family”.
We dance for the FREEDOM of the hostages. In our dance we send them our love and power. And may the merit our joy in the Torah stand by their side and bring them a miraculous redemption.
We dance for our CHIDLREN and the glorious future of our People.
We dance for the resurgence and AWAKENING OF JUDAISM that has surfaced in our community and around the world. This year, the number of Jews who connected to the Torah and to their Judaism surpassed all benchmarks. The soul of our nation has been ignited and it burns brightly.
We dance for the unprecedented swell of BROTHERHOOD and the outpour of love, money, and support from the entire Jewish world. Yes, in our moments of truth, we are indeed a united clenched fist that comes together.
We dance in GRATITUDE for the miraculous protection and revealed wonders G-d Almighty has shown us during this year of tension.
And finally, we dance in MEMORY of the pure and holy souls who were murdered on Simchat Torah. Yes, their memory motivates us to embrace and dance with our heritage.
So dear friends, this Simchat Torah - come and dance!
Dance with thousands of years of Jewish history.
Dance with the hostages.
Dance with the soldiers.
Dance with the Torah.
Fruma and our children - Malka, Yaakov, Shimi, Mendel, Mushka, Riva, Rachmiel, Yosef, Zalman & baby Levi - join me in wishing you a Chag Same'ach and Shabbat Shalom,
