Summer is officially here, Dutchess County! As the temperatures start to climb, my top priority is making sure our community stays safe, healthy, and cool. We know that the summer heat can be incredibly dangerous, especially for our seniors and neighbors with medical conditions that are made worse by extreme humidity and heat.

While New York State's Cooling Assistance Program already ran out of funding for the season, we are not leaving our vulnerable residents without options. I am thrilled to share that Dutchess County has stepped up to dedicate $35,000 in local funding to provide free window air conditioning units to those who meet age, medical and income requirements and do not have a functioning air conditioner already.

Even better news? This local program handles everything from start to finish, which means standard professional installation is completely included at no cost to you. We want to make sure everyone has access to a safe, comfortable, and cool environment right at home this summer.

Big news for our Dutchess County seniors!

One of my favorite initiatives is our GoGoGrandparent partnership through the Dutchess County Office for the Aging.

If you or your loved ones no longer drive, getting to vital doctor’s appointments can be incredibly stressful. GoGoGrandparent solves this by connecting seniors directly to reliable ride services, all without needing a smartphone or a confusing app. Registered older adults simply dial a toll-free number from any phone, and a safe, screened driver is sent right to their door.

This program is a wonderful, stress-free way to ensure our seniors get to medical appointments and can visit loved ones in local hospitals or nursing homes completely free of charge.
