When life gives you thunderstorms, you take the youth group to eat Mexican food. The youth event at the fair got canceled because of rain, so an impromptu Mexican outing filled the bill after an awesome youth led service.

Exciting News for Newport Elementary!
Newport School District is proud to announce that Dr. Nancy Churchwell has been named Principal of Newport Elementary School for the 2026–2027 school year!

Dr. Churchwell brings a wealth of experience and dedication to education. She is a National Board Certified Math Teacher and has served as the district’s Chief Financial Officer for the past four years. Throughout her career, she has supported students and staff in many roles, including district math coach, federal programs director, and homeschool liaison.

Dr. Churchwell and her family are deeply connected to our schools. Her husband, Matt Churchwell, teaches Criminal Justice at The Academies at Newport High School, and one of her four children, Sam, is a student at Newport Elementary.
We are excited about the leadership, experience, and passion Dr. Churchwell brings to this role and look forward to a bright future at NES!
