5 years ago we presented CEF to Good News Baptist in Cedar Rapids. This year that church started a Good News Club at a school there. The first day, one child attended. This month 25 children showed up to hear the Gospel! Praise God for the volunteers and Good News Baptist Church!

The Gospel Advances: From Supreme Court to Eastern Iowa!

In 2001, the U.S. Supreme Court issued a landmark decision in Good News Club v. Milford Central School, affirming that religious organizations like Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF) have the same access to public school facilities as secular groups. The Court ruled that excluding the Good News Club from meeting after school—while allowing other community groups—was a violation of free speech and religious freedom under the First Amendment. This ruling became a cornerstone for equal access, ensuring that faith-based clubs could not be discriminated against simply because of their religious viewpoint.

Fast forward to 2025, and the ripple effects of that decision are still being felt—this time in Eastern Iowa. A local school district had quietly drafted policies aimed at keeping Good News Clubs out of their buildings. But when Liberty Counsel stepped in to advocate for CEF of Iowa, the district reconsidered. Just two weeks ago, the first Club launched in that very school.

The impact was immediate and deeply moving. One mother, signing her son’s permission slip, wrote: “I hope he learns something about God so he can share it with us, we know nothing.” That simple sentence speaks volumes. It’s a cry for truth, a hunger for hope, and a door flung wide open for the Gospel.

Please pray for this family, for the children attending the Club, and for the district itself. The soil is fertile. Hearts are open. And the Gospel is moving forward—not just because of a Supreme Court ruling, but because God is still in the business of changing lives.
