In most dioceses of the United States, the Church will celebrate the Solemnity of Corpus Christi this year on Sunday, June 7, following the traditional rhythm of the calendar shortly after Trinity Sunday. The feast, instituted in 1264 by Pope Urban IV, highlights the Church’s faith in the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. “Corpus Christi” is Latin for “Body of Christ,” drawing our attention to Christ truly present under the appearances of bread and wine.
Throughout history, deep devotion to Christ in the Blessed Sacrament has marked the lives of the saints; by following their example, we too can grow in love for Jesus present in the Eucharist and strengthen our friendship with him through his Body and Blood.

"Tomorrow's Priest" refers to a dedicated diocesan initiative and second collection aimed at funding the education and formation of future seminarians. These collections help offset the substantial tuition, room, and board expenses required to train the next generation of clergy.

The cost of seminary education is one of the largest expenses we have as a diocese, but also one of the greatest investments we can make. With tuition, room, board and other expenses, the cost of educating a seminarian is about $50,000 per year. When you multiply that amount by the number of seminarians, it creates an annual expense of roughly a million dollars in seminary education every year. Please be generous to this great cause.

On World Environment Day, we are reminded of our interconnectedness and need to protect the most vulnerable populations and our beautiful Earth we are called to steward.

Prayer: God reveals Himself through Scripture and Tradition, but also in glimpses through nature. How do the depths of the ocean speak to you of who God is? How about the number of grains of sand? And the variety of life we can encounter on the planet?

Action: Did you know our washing machines can release microplastics into our water system? Two easy ways to address this is to make sure you wash clothes on full loads, and to install a microfiber filter into your washing machine system.

Almsgiving: Did you know many of our local parishes are creating environmental ministries? One example is the Green Team at St. Elizabeth’s, KCMO. They are creating many opportunities for parish involvement in reducing waste and growing in ecospirituality. You can learn more and support them at https://sites.google.com/view/ste-eco/home.

Catholic social teaching is a rich treasure of wisdom about building a just society and living lives of holiness amidst the challenges of modern society. There are several key themes of this teaching.

Care for God's Creation

We show our respect for the Creator by our stewardship of creation. We are called to protect people and the planet, living our faith in relationship with all of God’s creation. This environmental challenge has fundamental moral and ethical dimensions that cannot be ignored.
