Ramat Shalom Beth Israel

Ramat Shalom Beth Israel Ramat Shalom Beth Israel is a vibrant, growing, innovative synagogue located in South Florida. Ramat Shalom is one of the oldest synagogues in Broward County.

The congregation was founded in 1976 as a small, Jewish discussion group that met in members’ homes. The group quickly grew into a synagogue with many members, a rabbi, a building, a preschool and a religious school. Despite its increase in size, the congregation has never lost the small, intimate feeling that characterized Ramat Shalom from the outset. We pride ourselves on being a real community

of Jews who care for each other, celebrate with each other, and grow with each other. For many years, Ramat Shalom was affiliated with the Reconstructionist Movement, the younger sister of the Conservative Movement. Today, instead of affiliating with a specific movement, Ramat Shalom embraces the tradition of the Conservative Movement, the emphasis on learning and study of the Reconstructionist Movement and the creativity of the Reform Movement. Our Rabbi was trained in both the Conservative and Reconstructionist Movements and our Cantorial Soloist has a great deal of experience working in the Reform Movement. The two of them create a spiritual home that is uniquely Ramat Shalom. Please, come and experience us! We invite you to make Ramat Shalom your Jewish home.

This morning, one of our congregants, Sheldon Feldman, marked the 72nd anniversary of becoming a bar mitzvah. Mazal tov, Sheldon! And thank you to his wife, Marsha, for participating in this morning’s service as well.

As Sheldon shared memories of preparing for that day more than seven decades ago, many of our 6th and 7th grade students were leading the service. They learned how different bar mitzvah preparation was in another era. And he learned something too: different isn’t bad.

In fact, our students — some of whom have already become b’nai mitzvah themselves — led the service with confidence, skill, and heart.

It was a beautiful morning. Multiple generations gathered in one sanctuary. Beautiful music. Great energy. Shared stories. Community.

Seventy-two years after his own bar mitzvah, Sheldon reminded us that Jewish life is at its best when generations learn from one another.

The moment we gossip about someone—
they stop being a person. They become a conversation.

A short clip from a recent sermon Rabbi Andrew gave on gossip, trust, and the spaces we create with our words.

The morning after Shavuot, Aaron became Bar Mitzvah.

Following in Moses’ footsteps, he climbed our own Mt. Sinai — the bimah — took hold of the Torah, carried it among his people, read from it, taught from it, and inspired all of us.

This morning was a beautiful reminder that revelation did not end at Sinai. It continues every time a new generation rises to embrace Torah, Jewish life, and the story of our people.
