Welcome Spencer Grant - Our Seminarian
Hello, Saint Clement Parish! My name is Spencer Grant, and as you may have heard, I will be spending my pastoral year here as I continue my formation for the priesthood in the Diocese of Saint Petersburg. I am beyond excited to get started and begin getting to know each and every one of y’all.
I was born and raised in Tampa and have called Saint Timothy Parish in Lutz my home since our family became Catholic in 2009. I graduated from Alonso High School in 2015 and began my undergraduate studies at Hillsborough Community College. After receiving my associate’s degree, I felt the Lord calling me to pursue a vocation to the priesthood (a calling I had felt off and on since I was fifteen). I was accepted as a seminarian in 2020 and began my philosophy studies at Saint John Vianney College Seminary in Miami, graduating in 2022. After a short time of discernment away from the seminary, I resumed my theological studies at Saint Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary in Boynton Beach in 2024, where I have been for the past two years.
Aside from my excitement to work with such a wonderful community, I am simply looking forward to being available to y’all in whatever capacity I can possibly serve. I am near-fluent in Spanish after years of study and two summers of immersion in Toledo, Spain (I promise my Spanish is not Castilian) and am looking forward to diving head-first into what I hear is one of the most thriving communities in our diocese. I’m pretty easy to get to know; if there’s food, golf, good conversation, and good people, I am a very happy man. Until then, thank you so much for opening your home to me, and please pray for me.
¡Muy buenas, San Clemente! Me llamo Spencer Grant, y como ya escucharon, pasaré mi año pastoral aquí con ustedes mientras continúo mi formación sacerdotal para la Diócesis de San Petersburgo. Estoy sumamente emocionado de comenzar esta nueva etapa y, sobre todo, de ir conociendo a cada uno de ustedes.
Nací y crecí en Tampa, y la parroquia de San Timoteo en Lutz ha sido mi hogar desde que mi familia entró en la Iglesia Católica en 2009. Me gradué de Alonso High School en 2015 y comencé y completé mi AA en Hillsborough Community College. Después de esto, sentí que el Señor me llamaba a seguir la vocación al sacerdocio, una vocación que sentía de vez en cuando desde los quince años. Fui aceptado como seminarista en 2020 y comencé mis estudios de filosofía en el Seminario de San Juan Vianney en Miami, donde me gradué en 2022. Después de un breve período de discernimiento fuera del seminario, retomé mis estudios de teología en el Seminario Regional de San Vicente de Paúl en Boynton Beach en 2024, donde he estado durante los últimos dos años.
Además de la alegría que me da poder trabajar con una comunidad tan maravillosa, lo que más deseo es simplemente estar disponible para ustedes y servirles en todo lo que pueda. Hablo español casi con fluidez después de años de estudio y dos veranos de inmersión en Toledo, España (les prometo que mi español no es tan castellano), y tengo ganas de lanzarme de lleno a lo que, según me cuentan, es una de las comunidades más vivas de nuestra diócesis. No es muy difícil conocerme: si hay buena comida, un juego de golf, una buena conversación, y buena gente, soy un hombre muy feliz.
