As the sister of Moses, I can tell you that sorrow and servitude does not completely destroy joy. We still laughed at each others jokes, we celebrated weddings, women talked about men and men talked about women. We sang as we labored. I helped our women, I cared for our children. After my brother Moses freed our people from slavery, we were free. For many, that was scary. I comforted my people with stories and song to the Lord who freed us. I guess I was a Prophetess, reminding my people from where we had come and where we were going.

In the scripture for today, I am just Sister and Moses was simply my baby brother. He was in danger the moment he was born. He was hidden among the reads of the Nile and found by Pharaoh's daughter who took compassion on him. I said to her, "do you want me to find a Hebrew woman to nurse the baby?" She said yes so I raced to my mother who nursed her own baby. The rest is recorded history. Do you see what God did here? You and I are here today because I allowed God to use me. I was really nobody, just his big sister. God will use you if you let him and big things will happen. Your availability no matter how small can make a big difference if God is with you.

Presbyterians, Baptists, Catholics... We are all different but we belong to the same body of Christ. Scripture calls us to unity, not uniformity. Gods grace is always bigger than whatever boundaries we decide to put out there. So what makes Presbyterians Presbyterians? We believe that Christ is the head of the Church; not a human. One person does not have all the authority. Scripture is the final authority. But there is more......

Where has Jesus shown up unexpectedly in your life? What storm did you get through that revealed to you that God was there with you. How many times has He been there. Can you count them all?

The places where we feel the most vulnerable may become the places where God does His greatest work! So when illness comes or relationships fracture or your plans collapse or fear appears overwhelming, remember this --- God often meets us in these moments. God rarely leaves us the same. Maybe that's the point. In those moments, God's most lasting works are often performed. Thanks be to God!
