Are we making room for God to take hold of us and lead us into the life we deeply want—the life he wants us to have?

In honor of the 250th anniversary of the American founding, we gathered for a thoughtful evening reflecting on religious liberty, faith, and public life. 🇺🇸

The event began with dinner and fellowship, followed by Evening Prayer led by Bishop Paul Donison, and concluded with the inaugural Turnbull Memorial Lecture featuring historian Dr. Miles Smith of Hillsdale College.

Together, we reflected on the meaning of religious liberty, the vision of the Founding Fathers, and how faith and public life continue to shape one another today. Thank you to the Center for Religion, Culture & Democracy for co-sponsoring this meaningful event.

What's the significance of the Mitre (Bishop's hat)?

It's not a crown.

It's meant to be a tongue of fire.

It's not saying that the Bishop has the Holy Spirit. It's meant to be a symbol for the whole community...that the Holy Spirit poured out on the Day of Pentecost is still poured out on us today.

Living the Life You Really Want | Acts 2:1-11

On Pentecost, Bishop Paul reminds us that the Holy Spirit awakens faith, fills believers, and faithfully continues to help, advocate for, and counsel us today. While the Spirit fills all who profess Christ, we must take care not to ignore or quench his work in our lives. At Pentecost, the Spirit gave believers languages of other nations, turning their hearts outward as witnesses. The same Spirit remains active and faithful today. Pentecost continues, and the promise is still for us.

Buzz Aldrin took Communion to the moon.

He spoke the words of John 15:5 - that apart from Jesus, we can do nothing.

Why? Because, he understood the ascension. Wherever Buzz's mission took him, and wherever our mission takes us, Jesus goes there too.

Today, we invite you to join in prayer, together with the Church:

🎵 Sound on.
✨ Deep breath.
✝️ The Lord is with you.

Almighty God, on this day, through the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, you revealed the way of eternal life to every race and nation: Pour out this gift anew, that by the preaching of the Gospel your salvation may reach to the ends of the earth; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. AMEN.

[Collect for the Day of Pentecost]

❓What is a Collect?

The 'Collects' are prayers written for the Church to pray collectively throughout the liturgical year.

You can find all the Collects of the Christian Year in the 2019 Book of Common Prayer for the Anglican Church in North America, beginning at page 598.

🙏 Whatever your background or tradition, we welcome you into this sacred practice of weekly prayer.

It is better for us that Jesus reigns as king in heaven, over all things.

Mary didn't understand right away, but eventually she did: that in Jesus ascending into heaven, it meant they would never lose him again.

🌻 Bounce houses, snow cones, Chick-Fil-A, and plenty of springtime fun—our Spring Festival was a wonderful evening together!

From games and inflatable slides to face painting and colorful ball play areas, families and friends filled the Christ Church campus on May 13 for joy-filled conversations and activities. We're grateful that the Lord gives us these memorable, life-giving times to be together.

The mission is too big. The message is to hard. The messengers are too weak.

This is why the news of God's presence with us and empowerment to be his witnesses is such an encouragement.

The mission is too big, the message is too hard, and we are too weak to accomplish it on our own. In a world centered on self, the call to repentance and salvation can feel uncomfortable. Yet Jesus did not leave his disciples alone. The Ascension means that he is not absent, but completely available to the Church he sends on mission. The Lord who sends us, goes with us, gives us everything we need for the mission. And the image of the Ascending Lord shows us that this promise is guaranteed.

The Christian life never moves beyond Jesus.

Abide. Remain. Live. Dwell. Make your home in... Jesus.

He doesn't wash us clean and then wish us luck as we go off into the world. Every day, every hour, every minute of our lives is lived in and through him.
