Have you ever noticed how culture constantly tries to reshape Jesus into a "safe" or comfortable figure? It's easy to want a Jesus who fits neatly into our pre-existing lifestyles, rather than one who challenges us and changes our hearts.

In our latest conversation with Josh Newell from the Jesus Film Project, we talk about the danger of a "safe" Jesus and how encountering the real Christ transforms communities from the inside out. We don't have to settle for cultural caricatures!

How do you navigate conversations about who Jesus really is with your friends and family? Share your thoughts below, and check out the full article for three practical steps to help cut through the confusion.

The average four-year-old asks up to 900 questions a day. They aren’t looking for mechanics; they want to know why the world exists and why it's beautiful. But somewhere between the childhood backyard and the corporate boardroom, most of us stopped wondering. We traded meaning for information, and in the process, things became a bit... numb.

Think about it: We binge epic fantasy franchises, lose ourselves in cinematic universes, and scroll endlessly. We are desperate to feel like characters in a grand story.

Why? Because we secretly suspect that we are.

We aren't accidents or machines. We are image-bearers. G.K. Chesterton once wrote that the world doesn't suffer from a lack of wonders, but from a lack of wonder. When we look at a sunset, a tree, or the people at our dinner table through the lens of a Creator, the ordinary becomes extraordinary.

Jesus didn’t hand out textbooks; He pointed at lilies and birds and told us to become like children. He was restoring the very eyes we’ve been talked out of.

Your phone’s algorithm doesn't care about truth—it only cares about keeping your attention.

The average adult spends roughly 49 hours a week scrolling digital feeds, compared to just 1 hour in a weekend church service. Whether we realize it or not, our feeds have become our primary source of spiritual formation.

When data replaces discipleship, how do we find real clarity?

Join Austin Fruits, Matthew Tingblad, Brock, and special guest Eric Hernandez live on May 26th at 1:00 PM CST for our Live Virtual Roundtable: Church of the Algorithm: Discipleship in a World of Distraction and Doomscrolling.

Let’s move past profiles and get back to real, intentional community.

Spiritual apathy is the quiet thief of joy. It happens when the wonders of the Gospel become "old news" and the distractions of the world become loud.

Between the grind of work, family, and a constant stream of digital noise, it’s easy for our hearts to drift into spiritual apathy. We don’t necessarily stop believing; we just stop caring as much.

But here’s the good news: God isn't silent, and He isn't hidden. He has revealed Himself in ways that can wake up our souls and cut through the fog. Understanding how God speaks is the first step toward finding your "spark" again.

Let's move from "going through the motions" to a vibrant, lived-out faith.

Does God care more about your behavior or your heart?

Many of us grew up thinking Christianity was a list of "dos and don'ts" to keep God from getting angry. But if we look closer at the character of God, we see something much deeper. The "rules" aren't there to restrict us; they are there because He loves us and knows how life works best.

When we see Jesus clearly, we realize that His instructions aren't hoops to jump through, but instead they are a pathway to freedom. God doesn't want your perfection; He wants your presence.

Is Jesus a life coach or a King?

We often hear Jesus quoted as a source of “good advice”, but when Jesus spoke, He didn’t just offer suggestions. He spoke as one with authority.

Think about it: Advice is something you can take or leave based on how you feel. Authority is something you align your life with because it’s true.

When Jesus tells us to love our enemies or forgive those who hurt us, He isn't just giving a "helpful tip." He’s showing us how we were designed to live by the One who designed us.

Understanding the difference between Jesus’ advice and His authority changes everything. It’s the difference between a life of convenience and a life of transformation.

"I am the way, the truth, and the life." It's one of the most quoted verses in the Bible and one of the most misunderstood.

Some read John 14:6 and assume it means everyone gets saved automatically, no response required. But that reading ignores the entire story John is telling.

From the very first chapter, John frames everything around a choice. Jesus came into the world. Some received him. Some didn't. And that tension runs through every encounter, every conversation, every moment.

John 14:6 isn't a theological footnote. It's an invitation that demands a response.

The book of John doesn't let us stay neutral. It asks us directly, do we receive him, or do we not?

What do you do with a claim that exclusive and that personal?

"I am the way, the truth, and the life." John 14:6

But what does that actually mean?

Some say everyone gets to Heaven automatically or that Jesus saves all people whether they know Him or not.

But when you read the full context of John's Gospel, that interpretation falls apart.
- In John 1, only those who received Him became children of God.
- In John 3, Jesus tells Nicodemus you must be born again to see the kingdom.
- In John 3:16, eternal life comes to whoever believes in Him.
John wrote his entire Gospel so that "by believing you may have life in His name" (John 20:31).

Our response to Jesus matters...tremendously.

We love to quote Jesus when it's convenient. Love your neighbor. Treat others the way you want to be treated. Care for the poor. But here's the part that often gets left out - Jesus didn't offer those words as suggestions from a life coach. He spoke them as someone who claimed authority over how we're meant to live.

Think about it this way. If a stranger walked up and told you how to manage your money, the first thing you'd ask is, "Who are you?" Because the weight of someone's words depends on who they are.

The same is true with Jesus. His ethics aren't free-floating advice you can borrow and apply however you want. They flow directly from his identity - his claim to be God, his claim to know what's ultimately good for humanity because he made us.

Loving your neighbor is easy when it benefits you. It gets a lot harder when that person has hurt you or when it costs you something. The only reason to follow that teaching in the hard moments is if the one who said it actually has the authority to ask it of you.

So if his teachings are worth quoting, what do you do with the one who said them?
