🌙 ROSH CHODESH ELUL — THE KING IS IN THE FIELD

“I am my beloved's, and my beloved is mine.” — Song of Songs 6:3

Welcome to Elul—the biblical-calendar month leading us toward the extraordinary Fall Appointed Times of Tishrei.

Jewish tradition associates the Hebrew letters of **Elul** with:

Ani l'dodi v'dodi li — “I am my beloved's, and my beloved is mine.”

Elul has therefore become a season of **teshuvah—return, repentance, reflection, and drawing near to God.**

There's also a beautiful Jewish parable associated with Elul:

“The King is in the Field.”

It pictures a king leaving his palace and becoming accessible to ordinary people.

For followers of Yeshua, it points us toward an even greater biblical truth:

Our King came to us.

And through Messiah, we've been invited to draw near to the throne of grace.

As Elul prepares us for Yom Teruah, Rosh Hashanah (Feast of Trumpets), Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement), and Feast of Sukkot (Tabernacles), perhaps the question isn't merely:

What time is it on God's calendar?

But: What is God doing in my heart?

Search me.

Teach me.

Forgive me.

Awaken me.

Use me.

And as antisemitism and hostility toward Israel continue to rise, may the Church become like the Sons of Issachar—understanding the times and knowing how to respond.

Why does Israel still matter to God...and why should it matter to every Christian?

Because the God of the Bible never changes.

His love, His faithfulness, and His promises remain steadfast. Throughout Scripture, God reveals His redemptive plan through Israel—not because of their greatness, but because of His covenant faithfulness. Through Israel came the Scriptures, the prophets, and ultimately, the Messiah, Jesus.

Understanding God's heart for Israel helps us better understand His heart for the world.

Tonight begins Tisha B'Av—the most solemn day on the Jewish calendar.

For nearly 2,000 years, the Jewish people have remembered the destruction of both the First and Second Temples in Jerusalem, along with many other tragedies that have marked their history.

As followers of Yeshua (Jesus), we are reminded of Paul's words:
"Mourn with those who mourn." (Romans 12:15)

Tonight, let's stand in prayer with the Jewish people.

🙏 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem.

🙏 Pray for comfort for those who mourn.

🙏 Pray for protection over Jewish communities worldwide.

🙏 Pray that hatred and antisemitism would give way to truth, compassion, and hope.
