Harvesters Reaching the Nations

"Every day, our pharmacy team works to keep three kinds of medicine within reach: antimalarials like Coartem, pain relief, and antibiotics - essentials that keep our hospital's care moving without interruption. Having medicines consistently available improves patient outcomes and minimizes resistance," Harvesters' Hospital Pharmacist, Mr. Ojuka Kenneth, explains. "It makes the whole treatment process smooth, with no breaks in the patient flow, and it increases trust in the hospital team and our services."

That trust is hard-won in a hard-to-reach area like ours. When medicines run out, the consequences are immediate and serious, diseases drag on longer than they should, insufficient dosing fuels antimicrobial resistance, and community confidence in our services erodes. When medicines are unaffordable, the picture is even more grim. “That means mortality rate within the community will increase,” Mr. Kenneth says. “If we don’t have them, or have them but they’re too expensive, patients are left with no options at all, and with no hope of cure.”

Some of the most moving moments come with medicines that are rarely available anywhere nearby, anti-rabies treatment and insulin among them. “Many patients have looked all around and haven’t found that particular drug, then they find it with us,” says Mr. Kenneth. “Patients are always so overjoyed when they come and get these readily available with us.”

Behind every full shelf is a system most patients never see, what the pharmacist calls “medicine support”: policies, funding, trained staff, and management working together so that drugs are procured, stored, and reach the people who need them.

Stories like this one are only possible because medicine is on the shelf when a patient needs it. Salam! My name is Justin Data. I am fourteen years old, and I come from the Zamba area here in Yei. Every day, I walk for nearly fifty minutes to reach school. Education has helped me understand many things and prepared me for the future. It is giving me the knowledge and confidence to pursue my dreams.

One of the most important lessons I have learned through Christian education is the value of forgiveness and obedience to God. Through prayers, Bible lessons, and fellowship, I have grown spiritually and learned how to live peacefully with others.

My dream is to become a lawyer one day. I want to defend those who cannot defend themselves and help bring justice to my community.

Salam! My name is Ememe John, and I am fifteen years old. Like some of my classmates, I'm from the Rainbow area, which takes us a forty-minute walk to get to school each day. 

My education means a lot to me because it helps me become a better person and gives my family hope for the future. I know that if I study hard, I will be able to support my family and help others.

The blessing of Christian education that we receive at school has strengthened my faith by teaching me the Word of God. Through daily discipleship and fellowship, I have learned to trust God and to live according to His teachings.

My dream is to become a teacher because I want to inspire children and help them achieve their dreams, just as my teachers are helping me today.
