This week, pray for seasonable weather, especially for those whose lives and work depend on it, and for those who are most affected by extreme weather and natural disasters during the upcoming fall months.

For all the people of our land, especially those who rely upon sunshine and rain in due season, that our gracious God, the Maker of the heavens and the earth, would open His hand to sustain and satisfy His creatures, and that He would defend and protect us from all calamity by fire and water, from pestilence and drought, from scarcity and famine, and from every other evil, let us pray to the Lord: Lord, have mercy.

For the churches of the Lord, tended as lights in the darkness, that they may shine by the power of His Spirit and show forth His Gospel, let us pray to the Lord: Lord, have mercy.

Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, you are the Holy One of Israel. All nature responds to you. Bring an end to these fires in our region, guard and sustain those first responders who seek to quench the flames, protect the property and livelihoods of all those who have been evacuated, and restore those who have experienced loss. Thank you that injury and loss of life have been minimal in this disaster -- and more importantly, thank you for giving us your gift of new and eternal life in Christ. Use the members of our NOW District congregations to care for people hurting in our community so that hearts may be turned to the true hope of life found only in you. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

For the delegates who are assembled in convention this week, that God would give them wisdom to work for the welfare of our Synod; that He would guard the lips of those who speak and the ears of those who hear; that He would give us courage to do with integrity what we promise; and that, according to His will, He would bless and prosper the plans and actions undertaken in His name, let us pray to the Lord: Lord, have mercy.
