For we did not follow cunningly devised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty. For He received from God the Father honor and glory when such a voice came to Him from the Excellent Glory: “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” And we heard this voice which came from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain.

And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts; knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.
2 Peter 1:16-21 NKJV

This is a very important statement Peter is making. This is his reinforcement of the evidence of Jesus as the Son of God, the Living Word, and our blessed Savior and Master. It comes down to this, Jesus is God. He came to save us from our sin. The Old Testament prophesied of His coming. Over 300 prophecies He fulfilled from virgin birth to dying on the cross. We can only understand and accept the identity of Jesus Christ as the Word and the Son of God by the enlightenment of the Holy Spirit. The Father calls us to Jesus for redemption. If we refuse that call, or the Holy Spirit indwelling us, we will not be in heaven with Jesus and the Father. No matter how good you think a person is or was, they will not be given entrance into heaven by works, good intentions, or concern for others. The only access to the Father's house is by the blood of the Son to cleanse us. The Gospel is the truth when nothing else is. There is no truth apart from Jesus as Lord over your life. Do you want Him to serve you, or are you willing to serve Him?

Father God, thank You for giving us Your Holy Spirit inspired truth. Thank You for sending Your Son to save us from ourselves. We open our hearts to receive the Holy Spirit and we fully and without reservation surrender out lives to Your service. In Jesus's precious name. Amen

For this reason I will not be negligent to remind you always of these things, though you know and are established in the present truth. Yes, I think it is right, as long as I am in this tent, to stir you up by reminding you, knowing that shortly I must put off my tent, just as our Lord Jesus Christ showed me. Moreover I will be careful to ensure that you always have a reminder of these things after my decease.
2 Peter 1:12-15 NKJV

Peter is the rock upon which Jesus built His church. (Matthew 16:18) Peter's walk with Christ was about building the church of Acts and preparing them to go forth and continue spreading the Gospel after his death. Peter knew, just as Jesus had known, that his death was near. He describes his body as a "tent", a temporary dwelling while on the earth. The main lesson we should take from this is even knowing it would bring his death, Peter continued on mission, just as Jesus and many other disciples did. We should be willing to do the same. Will we stand with Jesus even though it means our death? What about dying to our flesh to honor our risen King? Can we walk away from our flesh to be closer to our Bridegroom? What means more to us, joys of the flesh or intimacy with Jesus Christ? Do we desire sin more than our Savior? Do we love the world over our salvation? Will we surrender our pleasures of sin to honor our God? Can we endure until the end, or will we look back like Lot's wife?

Father God, thank You for sending us to encourage one another. Teach us through Your word and by the Holy Spirit to leave dead things behind and focus on the life You have given us through Your beloved Son. In His name. Amen

But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins.

Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble; for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
2 Peter 1:5-11 NKJV

We know that if we are walking with Jesus and indwelled by the Holy Spirit, He will not leave us in the same condition we came to Him in. If we are truly surrendered to Jesus as Lord and Master, there will be evidence of that. This is our fruit. Jesus cursed the fig tree that did not bear fruit. (Mark 11:12-25) He also warned us if He does not know us, we will not be prepared for His coming for His bride. (Matthew 7:22-23) These are warnings we should pay attention to. Jesus desires for us to have a deep, intimate, and personal relationship with Him. Would you marry someone you barely know and take them into your father's house? We must grow closer with Jesus. Our relationship with Him is a journey, not a destination. It is a walk, not a meeting. Many today do not teach the difference between the bride of Christ and the children of God. We are both saved, but our deliverance is very different. We must spend time in the Word of God to know Jesus personally and to allow Him to know us. Saying a short prayer and attending church services is simply not enough. We must allow Him deep into our lives and give Him our all.
Is there anything you are holding back from Him today? Take it to Him and leave it at His feet.

Father God, thank You for showing us exactly what we must do to become the bride of Your Son. Help us to never hold anything back from You. In Jesus's beautiful name. Amen

Simon Peter, a bondservant and apostle of Jesus Christ,

To those who have obtained like precious faith with us by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ:

Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
2 Peter 1:1-4 NKJV

Peter gives us a great example of how the church should greet each other. Welcoming one another in grace and love, reminding each other of our blessed hope and victory through Jesus Christ. Speaking peace and victory into one another’s lives, and accepting all parts of the body. In many ways our modern church has lost sight of this. Many church members are there for "fire insurance." They are not serving to glorify God, they are trying to ensure they do not go to hell. They are not trying to be redeemed, just "saved." We have been given deliverance from the lusts of the flesh, but are we exercising that freedom? Are we walking in the freedom, grace, and love we have been given by the Father, through the Son, and by the power of the Holy Spirit? Are we showing that grace and mercy to others, or just to those we like? Are we acting like followers of Jesus, or members of a select club? Are we forgiving as we want to be forgiven? What can we change in our lives today that will further glorify the King of kings?

Father God, thank You for Your grace, mercy, and love. Help us learn by the Holy Spirit how to embrace all members of the body of Christ. Remove our humanity and instill Your heart in it's place. In Jesus's name. Amen

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.
To Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.
1 Peter 8:5-11 NKJV

We live in a fallen world. Even Jesus told us that the enemy is the "ruler of this world." (John 14:30) Satan has dominion over this world because we as believers do not fully walk in the faith of the power granted to us through Jesus. Because of that lack of faith, we have diseases, addiction, and all manner of evil in the world. Peter is telling us exactly how we can exercise our authority through Jesus over the enemy and cast him out. We must always be on guard against the tactics of the enemy. He knows more about spiritual matters then we do, because we do not walk in the Holy Spirit as we should. We allow television, social media, and all the other distractions of the world to cloud our thinking. Satan does not have to defeat us, he just has to distract us from the love of the Father. All he has to do is stop the believer from being the bride and body of Christ, stopping the church from actually being the bride and turn it into a social club that chooses who they reach out to and allow to come into the family of God. He is being far too successful at his mission because the church is dropping the ball. We must do better.

Father God, thank You for making us into the bride of Your beloved Son. Thank You for Your word and Your Holy Spirit working in us. Help us to be the body You sent us to be. In Jesus's name. Amen

Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for

“God resists the proud,
But gives grace to the humble.”

Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.
1 Peter 5:5-7 NKJV

I spent today inside a Texas prison doing a Jubilee ministry. When we do the prison ministry and homeless ministry, we get to see people at their lowest. We get to speak with them about the Savior. We get the opportunity to show agape love to our fellow man. We also have people working outside the prison being a major blessing to all of us. While we do any of these ministries, we also see the flesh acting out seeking self-glorification. We see each other glorifying themselves, being proud and arrogant, and staying with their cliques. We find this in every church and ministry in the world. We see people only inviting their friends to serve in certain areas. We see what I refer to as "sacred cows". These are simply people who hold themselves in such high regard while pretending to have humility. We all have been or will be guilty of this at some point. Peter is warning us against this behavior as God will exalt us, or raise us to our proper position is service in due time. My beloved wife is a great example of a humble servant heart. She seeks no glory for herself, she only wishes to serve and be part of the team. Unfortunately, that is not always the case. She reminds me by her actions to humble myself and allow God to place me where He wants me, rather than to try to seek out high positions to glorify myself. She trusts in Him to make her way straight. I pray we each find an example like this to follow in our lives.

Father God, I want to take a moment and thank You for my beloved wife. She seeks only to serve You and give You glory. Help me to always remember this example in my own life. May all glory, honor, and praise be to You. In Jesus's name. Amen

The elders who are among you I exhort, I who am a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that will be revealed: Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion but willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly; nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock; and when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that does not fade away.
1 Peter 5:1-4 NKJV

As we walk with Jesus throughout our lives, we will grow and mature. When we are young in the faith (this is not an age question, but a maturity in Christ question), we tend to be exuberant and full of fire, but devoid of biblical knowledge and foolhardy. We have elders placed above us to shepherd us along and guide us in our growth. We must be sure that the leaders we follow are leading for the glory of Christ and not for self-glorification.
As we grow in maturity, we come to realize what humility is. We learn to sacrifice and suffer with joy and gladness as we are learning to emulate Jesus. Suffering and sacrifice is not a bad thing. We cannot grow without these experiences. We learn to be joyous in the attacks because we are becoming more like the Son of man. We celebrate the suffering as we become more prepared for the return of our King. Peter, who was crucified upside down because he felt unworthy to suffer as Jesus did, is teaching us how to celebrate our death to the world and new life found in Jesus, our Beloved.

Father God, thank You for maturity and growth through Your Holy Spirit. May we learn to surrender to sacrifice as Jesus did for us. Help us to learn to be joyous in the suffering and represent Your Son, our Bridegroom. In His name and for Your glory. Amen

For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God? Now “If the righteous one is scarcely saved, Where will the ungodly and the sinner appear?”

Therefore let those who suffer according to the will of God commit their souls to Him in doing good, as to a faithful Creator.
1 Peter 4:17-19 NKJV

In this section, Peter is speaking of the rapture of the church. There are many in the world that believe a quick prayer is enough to be ready for the "snatching away" of the saints. Jesus warns us in Matthew 7:23-25 that if we do not surrender ourselves to Him and allow Him to know us, He will command us to depart from Him. Walking with Jesus is a journey, not a one-time decision. We don't get to become the bride of Jesus without a courtship and becoming ready to live in the Father's house. We must become the image of Jesus to be seen as righteous by the Father. This does not mean we are saved by works, quite the contrary. We are saved by faith in Jesus Christ as Savior, but we must also surrender our heart and will to the Holy Spirit to be changed. Works are the evidence of our salvation. We know we are saved by the work the Holy Spirit does within us. We see His work in us and know we belong to Him. What work have you seen Him doing in you?

Father God, thank You for mercy and grace. Help us to learn true surrender and submission to You, and You alone. We long to become the bride for Your Son. Change us from who we were and make us who You desire for us to become. In Jesus's name. Amen

Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ’s sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy. If you are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. On their part He is blasphemed, but on your part He is glorified. But let none of you suffer as a murderer, a thief, an evildoer, or as a busybody in other people’s matters. Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in this matter.
1 Peter 4:12-16 NKJV

We all face trials in this life. Jesus told us if we follow Him, we are to take up our cross and follow Him. That statement has many different meanings. We are to lay down our burdens and follow His footsteps to the cross. We are to walk away from this world, not be beholden to it, and to leave our old life behind. It means we are to crucify our flesh by laying down our sin and stepping out of our self-made prison. It means we are to face our trials with gladness. If we are not being attacked, it is because we are not a threat to the enemy. I believe the worst insult I can get is to be left alone by the enemy because he is not afraid of what God is doing through me. The goal is to be constantly attacked by the enemy because we are constantly a threat to his kingdom.

Father God, thank You for the battles and attacks. May we always be surrendered to Your will in a way that makes us a violent threat to the enemy's plans. Thank You for the victory, Lord Jesus. In His name. Amen

But the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers. And above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins.” Be hospitable to one another without grumbling. As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.
1 Peter 4:7-11 NKJV

We are all members of the body of Christ once we have been indwelled by the Holy Spirit. You body has eyes, ears, hands, feet, skin, and several other organs. The Holy Spirit endows each of us with gifts as different parts of the body. With those gifts, we step out in faith and minister to the world to bring others to Jesus Christ for salvation. None of us is any more important than any other member. Your kidneys do not see what is around you. Your hands do not hear a conversation. Your eyes do not filter toxins from your blood. They all work together to keep your body alive. That is how we are to respond to one another. We are all parts of one body. We show love and forgiveness to one another. The body cannot war against itself. If we war against one another, we kill the body. We are to lovingly correct one another and inspect each other's fruit. If we can learn to stand together, the gates of hell shall never prevail against us.

Father God, thank You for the gifts of the Spirit. Thank You for allowing us to serve Your kingdom. Help us to see one another as parts of one whole. Help us to leave pride and arrogance behind and walk in Your love and mercy. In Jesus's name. Amen
